Summer of slaughter really was 2014 (?) I think: but it still fits.  They took the village from "our guys", Kurds and the rest.

IS Executes 24 Civilians after Seizing Syria Village

The Islamic State jihadist group has executed at least 24 civilians after seizing a village in northern Syria from a U.S.-backed Kurdish-Arab alliance, a monitor said Friday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said IS executed 24 civilians "in the last 24 hours" after taking Buyir from the Syrian Democratic Forces.

The village is located some 10 kilometres (6 miles) northwest of Manbij, a key waypoint between the Turkish border and the IS de facto capital of Raqa city.

IS seized control of several villages in the countryside northwest of Manbij since launching a "fierce assault" on Thursday, according to the Observatory, which relies on sources inside Syria for its information.

Meanwhile, from reading the Syrian Human Rights Observatory, plenty of civilians are dying in air strikes.

And in spite of all of this, the war is probably taking a lesser toll of human lives all the same.

We should have been arming and training Kurds instead of the Syrian "opposition" jihadis.

There's some overlap and there will be some overlap in what are Islamic militias. Probably even the Iranians and obviously, Hezbollah, allies to Assad may fight for religious reasons.

Arms go through Syria to enemies of Israel; yes, that is not our fight per se.
