Submission or scalp: Trump's GOP purges dissent

By Dr. Paul G. Kengor
July 22, 2016

In his latest piece posted at Townhall, veteran conservative columnist Pat Buchanan has joined the brigade of Trumpists demanding—yes, demanding—that Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas (A, 97%) fall in lock step with the Party line and salute the leader.

Before getting to Buchanan’s demand of Cruz’s conformity to the dictates of the Party, let’s first consider the commands of other Trumpists, because their behavior is astonishing and appalling, and not something we should be seeing in America, let alone the Republican Party.

In response to Ted Cruz’s non-endorsement on Wednesday evening, Trump hatchet man Roger Stone called Ted Cruz “a treacherous pr*ck.”

Fellow Trump attack-dog Michael Cohen likewise hammered Cruz, calling him “a baby” and “a sore loser” and saying that Cruz had committed “political suicide” by not endorsing the leader.

New York Congressman Peter King ripped Cruz as “a fraud” and “a self-centered liar,” who “should be disqualified from ever being considered as a nominee for President of the United States in the future."

Chris Christie called Cruz “awful” and “selfish.”

Yes, that’s right: Ted Cruz—not Donald Trump—is, in the minds of Trumpists, a narcissist.

And New York Congressman Chris Collins, who has the painfully embarrassing task of catching spears for Donald Trump regularly on CNN, said that the “self-absorbed” and “narcissistic” Cruz “ended his own career” on Wednesday evening and “should never be president.”

Yes, that’s right: Ted Cruz—not Donald Trump—is, in the minds of Trumpists, a narcissist.

Kayleigh McEnany leveled the same breathtaking charge at Cruz on CNN the night of Cruz’s speech. She said that Cruz, not Trump, suffered from narcissism.

Sarah Palin, too, has stepped forward, telling Breitbart that she wants Ted Cruz politically dead—permanently. She dubs his betrayal of the leader “career-ending.”

Let the purge begin. Trumpists apparently want the revolution to begin with the scalp of their man’s chief political adversary. Submission or scalp. Such is not unusual among political movements. As Trotsky said, the revolutionaries will not arrive at their kingdom with white gloves on a polished floor; blood will need to be spilled.

This brutal treatment of Ted Cruz is, obviously, shocking, but it’s especially outrageous given the target and circumstances. Consider this:

LAST PART...

Pat Buchanan tells us that the “weeping and gnashing of teeth are justified.” Not seeing any self-righteousness in his own words, he judges Ted Cruz: “For these self-righteous folks are all getting eviction notices. They are being dispossessed of their homes.”

Dispossessed of their homes? Wow. Alas, where’s the howling Siberian wilderness when you need it?

Buchanan tells us the big picture that’s at stake here: He informs us that what is being born is “a new Republican Party.” Apparently so. If this is the new Republican Party of Donald Trump, then I want nothing to do with it. Goodbye. Sayonara. Adios. Ciao. Enjoy your new GOP, folks.

Sounds like they should change the name to the FreeRepublican party.  I hear there's a fellow out in California who might be looking for work.

If God the Donald thinks he can grow the party by throwing people OUT, and especially conservatives...he is even more deluded and stupid than I have thought up to now.

It's becoming plain that the modern Republican Party is as useless as the Whig Party was 150 years ago and needs to go the same way.

A new American Principles Party needs to be founded.  I'd been cautious of advocating this - like Reagan, I thought our chances were better in co-opting an established major party...but it's pretty obvious, between trumpbots and pot use, we don't have a chance anymore.

Hillary gets this one.  I think the Union will collapse under her fat @ss; and the key to survival will be State Secession.  But in the end, a More Perfect Union needs to be founded; and an American Principles Party can be a key player in that.

That's the beauty of your posts. They never contain any reasoned thought. No argument of the points made. Just base emotions.

It was just totally absent anything meaningful or pertinent to the topic

No thanks necessary nor appreciated from folks like you who trash the republican nominee 24/7... which only goes to benefit Hillary Clinton and the democrats.

You folks have no room to talk as nearly 100% of y'all posts are vile insults hurled at the republican nominee and his supporters.

But y'all carry-on with your brilliant political "analysis" of how Donald Trump is a pediphile and he and his daughter Ivanka are having sex together. A lot of "reasoned thought" went into those posts from the Cruz-losers.

And yet again, not a single word about the topic of the thread, just more emotions spewing out. I've been a Republican more than 35 years and voted for every nominee starting with Ronald Reagan - but I'm not following the new alt-right brown shirts that have taken over of the party down the rat hole.

And the mentality of a 3rd Grade playground bully.
The libs/dems of today are the Quislings of former years. The cowards who would vote a fraud into office in exchange for handouts from the devil.

How about leading by example instead of acting like a poo flinging monkey at the zoo?

Guess that's too hard for you to do huh?

Please.  You insult virtually everyone you reply to.  As to talking trash about Trump, I think the truth is more akin to an old Will Rogers quote: "I don't make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts."  We don't trash The Donald, we just watch what he says and report the facts.
My political philosophy:

2) It's none of your business.

Trumpster calling Cruz supporters vile? That is a laugh! Personally if Trump comment on my family as he done to Cruz's I go back to the old way and meet him on the green early one morning because that is the only thing such people understand.

These Trumpquats need to be more concerned with Hillary than attacking Ted and other conservatives. Unless they really didn't plan to win anyway.
