Kasich is looking toward the future. Trumpism is an aberration; his whites-only strategy is up against a demographic maelstrom - Romney got 59% of the white vote and still lost. Even if Trump gets 66% of the white vote like Reagan did in 1984, that segment of the total vote is shrinking and Trump will be trounced with women and Hispanics.
Of course Kasich is right - the GOP can and must follow an inclusive strategy. That's why the party holds 31 governorships. That's why Paul Ryan and the House leadership are seeking to run on an ambitious platform of tax and regulatory reforms to (finally) grow the economy.
The GOP is worthy of our support this year. The problem is that, for some strange reason, the GOP declined to nominate a Presidential candidate this year. No matter. I will work and vote for Pat Toomey and other down-ballot candidates.
As for the Presidential race, it's a contest between the Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton, and that of the American version of the National Front, Donald Trump. As a Republican, the party of Lincoln, I reject utterly both the divisive Dems and the divisive National Front and trust that, in 2020, the Republican party will be back in the Presidential game again.
