A new Tennessee law allowing full-time employees to carry concealed handguns on college campuses went into effect July 1.
That number is likely to grow when the fall term begins.

Martha Copp, an ETSU sociology professor who was involved in planning a panel discussion in April at ETSU, also provided a statement on the matter.
"The mission of higher education is undermined by this law,” said Copp, who is also a member of United Campus Workers-CWA Local 3865. “Our legislators have shown that they care more about the gun industry than education.”
“In their relentless pursuit of eradicating gun-free zones, those legislators have made our campuses less safe, not more. The campus concealed carry law seduces people into believing they can be heroes who stop mass violence, but research on gun violence shows that more guns translates into more violence. The NRA is in the business of selling guns. We didn't elect the NRA; we elected legislators who should listen to all of us."
