I supported Ted Cruz during the primaries and struggled mightily with Donald Trump (and in many ways still do).  But I will vote for Trump in November, because as intrigued as I was early on by the NeverTrump movement, it’s clear these folks (who stand on soap boxes of personal integrity) are putting self before country.

David Horowitz and Daniel Greenfield of Front Page Magazine are two conservatives among many who have been covering the urgent need to get behind Trump.  Writing in forceful and eloquent ways, they are sounding the alarm, pointing out critical differences between Trump and Clinton.  Most recently, Horowitz wrote:

Quote
Barack Obama delivers nuclear weapons and $150 billion to America’s mortal enemy in the Middle East…

But when Donald Trump insinuates the president is a man of uncertain loyalties, Republican leaders back away from him. When Trump proposes fighting “radical Islam,” securing America’s borders, stopping unvetted immigration from Muslim terrorist states, surveilling mosques, and scrutinizing the families of terrorist actors, Republicans join Democrats in denouncing him, or take an uncomfortable distance or maintain a silence that leaves him to fend for himself. [snip]

…Democrat betrayers of America are on the attack, while Republican leaders who claim to be patriots are on the run…This is the sad state of the Republican forces in retreat in an election campaign that will decide the fate of our country.

The threat of Islam, terror, and open borders drives home the fact that without national security, all else is moot.  And on this front alone, Donald Trump’s views are dramatically different from Hillary Clinton’s.  The gap between Trump and Clinton on national security is so wide that it might one day save your life.  Or mine.  Or the lives of Republicans who will not vote for Trump because, you know: integrity.  As if casting a vote that helps ensure that a criminal, socialist Islamist sympathizer gets to plop herself down in the Oval Office in order to continue the destructive and downright evil work of the past eight years is an act brimming with integrity.

To those whose delicate sensibilities are offended by Trump, I ask: are your sensibilities not offended by Clinton?  Because if they’re not, then you should register as a Democrat.  And if they are, then the reality is that it will be Clinton or Trump.

Choose one.  “Conscientious objector” is an adolescent cop-out.  Our nation is at war (albeit a one-sided one we refuse to fight).  All adults are needed on deck.

As Daniel Greenfield wrote concerning those who are committed to abandoning our presumptive nominee and helping to “usher in eight years of left-wing rule” that embraces “positions well to the left of Obama”:

Quote
Political campaigns can get ugly and Trump’s style is, at times, to get as nasty as possible, but it’s a sign of misplaced insider priorities to allow personal animus to matter more than the war against the left. It’s not unreasonable for some conservatives to be angry at Trump and his tactics. It is unreasonable to let that anger turn into a petulance that would let the left rule the nation for another eight years.

So to those holier-than-thou conservatives who refuse to vote for Donald Trump because their personal integrity will not allow them to do so, I say: if you want more jihad, don’t vote for Trump, and help Hillary win.  If you want to be sure our borders remain open, don’t vote for Trump, and help Hillary win.  And if you want the next president to be someone who got Americans killed and then lied about it, don’t vote for Trump, and help Hillary win.  And when Hillary Clinton is sworn in as the next president, you can pat yourself on the back, know you did the right thing, and raise a glass to your integrity, which will have served your ego but not the nation.

The primaries are over.  Whatever happened happened.  Whatever rude, obnoxious, manipulative behavior Trump engaged in is in the past.  Voting for him doesn’t mean you condone such behavior, you support everything he has expressed, you trust him implicitly, or that you even like the guy.  It means you understand what’s at stake and have the maturity to move beyond your own ego in order to be a true patriot.

We either have a shot at a future or we don’t.

Trump gives America a chance to survive.  And maybe even do better than that.

Not to mention the appointment of federal judges (see the story in the News category about today's SCOTUS ruling on abortion).

Isn't the list of Judges that Trump gave out as his possible SCOTUS nominees good enough? If not, why not?

Actually we have no idea what kind of judges Trump will appoint.  Releasing a list and then saying that those are examples and not necessarily the people he would appoint, as Trump did, proves that.

It'd be great if Trump promised to appoint someone from that list.  But he almost immediately back-tracked and said they were examples and not necessarily the judges he would appoint.

He already disavowed the list. He said the person he appointed probably wouldn't be on the list.

We also know he did not like Scalia

Trump likes abortion, gays, affirmative action etc etc...

That's why

To save the message, the messenger must be replaced.   Incorporate some of Trump's themes into the party platform, but reject Trump as the nominee in favor of a compromise candidate,  such as Scott Walker.   That's the only way to keep Clinton from the White House.   Trump's nomination only ensures Democratic hegemony.

Right now, the Trumpsters are in deep denial - they can't win the election, and are lashing out at those of us who've been saying that for months now.   But lashing out does not allies make.  Trump's doomed,  and we all know it.

Sorry but no. This isn't a "R" versus "D" game. Settling for lesser and lesser has gotten us to the point where we are facing the two worst candidates for President in the major parties probably since James Buchanan.  We are facing probaby the two most corrupt, dispicable, immoral people ever to be put on a ballot with Trump and Clinton.

There is a pont where the people have to stop settling and stand up and say enough is enough. Some of the third party options may not seem ideal but if enough make a stand, it will send a message to the political parties and the pop culture populace that games are over. If enough people stand up to stop either candidate from reaching the electoral threshold, there is a safeguard with the House of Represenatives then having a chance to chooose and a do-over.

It is an extreme long shot, but it is better than settling for the lesser of two lessers.

If anything, the message should be lound enough to let people know enough of us are tired of these corrupt, dispicable candidates. #NeverTrump #NeverHillary

Clearly Carol wants liberalism in the GOP and in charge of America.

Carol and your fellow Trump supporters...Here's a word you better get used to.

One hopes that she's including the candidate himself in this little peroration.  Unfortunately, Mr. Trump has not demonstrated a particularly adult demeanor during this campaign or before it.  At best he's a thrill-seeker -- the "thrill" being adulation from those whom he has buffaloed.

The next day he also said his appointment would not be on that list.
Furthermore, at least one of the judges he would supposedly appoint hates his guts, which means he didn't have anything to do with making that list.

The folks at Draper Sterling slaved over google and wikipedia for almost twenty minutes to produce that list. Why would Donald read it, he hires only the best? He really means that. His people are the best, most awesome people of all time, their brains are yuge.

Yup.  That's why the morning after that election I felt like I was punched in the gut.  I realized the majority of voters had finally figured out they could vote themselves largesse from the public Treasury.  All representative governments fail after that, and ours won't be an exception.  What follows is a dictatorship that promises to right the financial ship of state.  Orange Julius, anyone?

The only reason I didn't see that four years earlier was because McStain was such a miserable candidate (actually endorsed Obama a few weeks before the election).  We probably would have lost even with a better candidate because the welfare bunch was too large a voting bloc, even then.  It's even worse now.

Trump said forcibly he did not want nor need Conservatives to 'win'.

The Trump Militant said they did not need us "principled bible thumpers' who are a blight on their party - and would "win" without us.

Then they declared us traitors for refusing to vote for their prince, and went on to fantasize about hanging and/or shooting us for treason "when the time comes".

I think all these seig-heiling 'fraidy cats of Hildabeast can POUND SAND if they think they can convince us to vote for their NY liberal self-absorbed madman.

Besides, I am convinced Trump was sent as a weapon to destroy any viable opposition to Hildabeast in the first place.  In this, he succeeded.

What remains is whether he will drop out and claim the GOP is being 'unfair' to him once it becomes evident he is going to be trounced , or if he thinks he will win and grab the throne for himself.

We lost the country in a velvet coup in 2012 and elections are just orchestrations at this point to placate the masses that they have a voice in who rules them.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

LOL

I remember that during the 2008 election and wondered if McCain decided he really didn't want to be president, after all.

What I bolded is probably why you're not hearing much from any candidate this year about rolling back the welfare state
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.
