House members will receive a classified briefing on Tuesday about the shooting in Orlando, Fla., from members of President Obama's national security team.
The briefing with FBI Director James Comey, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson and National Counterterrorism Center Director Nick Rasmussen will take place Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
Sunday's massacre at a gay nightclub in Orlando, which killed 49 people, has been deemed by federal authorities as the deadliest mass shooting in American history. Comey said Monday that the shooter, who was killed after a shootout with police, pledged allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) during a 911 call.
The House will hold a moment of silence later Monday during its first vote series of the week at 6:30 p.m., Speaker Paul Ryan's (R-Wis.) office announced.
The moment of silence, a regular response in Congress to national tragedies, is drawing protests from Democrats who have expressed frustration with inaction on gun control after mass shootings. Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) declared on the House floor Monday afternoon that he will boycott future moments of silence in protest.
