Donald Trump the real estate developer owes much of his fame to the 1980s. Now Donald Trump the presidential candidate is going back to that decade to call on President Ronald Reagan’s economic team.

As the presumptive Republican nominee gets ready to put out his plan to boost U.S. growth, he’s sought advice from some of the most notable names in Reaganomics, including Arthur Laffer, Larry Kudlow and Stephen Moore.  More voters might support Trump if he can persuade them he will bring back some of the economic successes of the era when he penned his bestselling book, “Trump: The Art of the Deal.”

Kudlow and Moore have been working with the campaign on its tax plan, advising Trump to cut some deductions for high-income Americans and “raise money by broadening the tax base,” said Moore, a visiting fellow at the Washington-based Heritage Foundation who served as an economic adviser in Reagan’s administration.

This is a good move.

We need tax REFORM, reducing the tax rates in return for eliminating some of the fluff and ridiculous deductions.

It should be revenue neutral, especially since Trump won't go for reforming entitlements.   His tax plan is slated to blow a $10 trillion hole in the debt.

Laffer is really 1980s.  Republicans are not clamoring for tax cuts and Democrats will not approve them anyway.

Moore and Kudlow are not economists; they're TV personalities.

It would be.

But all this article says Trump 'seems open to' their ideas.

He's open to everyone's ideas. He was 'open' to Hannity's 'Penny Plan'.

I'll need a little more before I invest any optimism in Trump.

He was "open" to Kudlow and Moore's ideas to temper his plan a bit, to make it less of a drain on the deficit.

That's when Trump went on TV and made a fool of himself, saying he would raise taxes on the wealthy but not from where we are now but from his plan low. Confused the hell out of everybody.

The next day, he fired Kudlow and Moore and went back to his goofy plan.

THIS PLAN WILL NEVER PASS CONGRESS.  NOTHING CLOSE TO IT WILL PASS CONGRESS.

I join GrouchoTex in appreciation for Art Laffer's tax rate/revenue ideas, so long as they can be coupled with serious spending restraint; getting a 50% raise won't help if I double my spending.

But overall I'm with Skeeter and sinkspur on this; the article does nothing to change my opinion of Trump.

One of the things I really like about Donald Trump is his instinct to listen to many voices, many opinions.  This is his business background shining through.

Trump may just be the right man to improve on Reaganomics!   ^-^

It's not apparent that Trump listens to anybody.  He just says whatever's on his mind.

He made a huge mistake trashing Susanna Martinez.  He will lose New Mexico and alienate even more Hispanics and women.

I agree. Trump doesn't listen to anyone. He consults with himself and has a good brain after all. Oh, he also says a lot of things. Believe me.
Principles matter. Words matter.

I can't find anything to complain about Trump here either.  That's two posts in a row.  That beats the old record of 0.

All I can really say at this point is the I am firmly #NeverHillary.
I will not, however, march in Lock-step and say that everything Trump says or does should not be scrutinized, or even criticized, when necessary, as if, somehow by doing so, helps the opposition.
EVERY politician, and there positions (or lack thereof) SHOULD be scrutinized.
There are 2 developments from the Trump campaign that I do agree with.
This one, hiring Art Laffer and the list of Supreme Court judges.
There are several other statements and actions of his that I am critical of, and will continue to be.

There is the fear of the unknown, whether Trump will stick to these things or not.
Hasn't been a good track record.
I do know Hillary wouldn't hire Art Laffer and her list of Supreme Court justices would be vastly different.
On the other issues....Only the two I've mentioned and a 3rd, being Immigration, are where I can see vast differences between the 2, so far.
