Self-funding your campaign actually means lending money to your campaign. It is illegal to actually give your campaign money. Due to campaign Finance laws it must be in the form of a loan. In the end you do not have to pay the loan back to yourself. Mitt Romney did not pay his loan back to himself. Nor did John hunstman.
