BAGHDAD (AP) — U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said on Tuesday that an American serviceman has been killed in Iraq, describing it as a "combat death."

The defense secretary, who spoke to reporters in Stuttgart, Germany, where he has been consulting with European allies this week on fighting the Islamic State group, provided no other details.

It was not immediately clear when the serviceman died but Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said he was killed near Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city that has been in the hands of IS militants since they overran large swaths of northern and western Iraq in the summer of 2014.

"A Coalition service member was killed in northern Iraq as a result of enemy fire," the U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM, said in a statement. "Further information will be released as appropriate." The statement noted the military's the policy "to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities."

Meanwhile, a U.S. military official in Iraq said the American was killed while performing his duty as an adviser to the Kurdish peshmerga troops.

An American serviceman has been killed by ISIS forces in northern Iraq in what Defense Secretary Ash Carter labeled a “combat death” — the third US military fatality at the hands of the terror group, officials said.

The soldier was killed near Iraq’s second-largest city, Mosul, which has been under the control of the jihadists since they captured large swaths of northern and western Iraq two years ago, Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook said.

“A Coalition service member was killed in northern Iraq as a result of enemy fire,” the US Central Command, or CENTCOM, said in a statement without identifying the soldier, who was killed north of Mosul.

A US military official in Iraq said the American was killed by “direct fire” while fulfilling his duties as an adviser to the Kurdish peshmerga troops, whose forward line was penetrated by ISIS near Irbil.

The American was about three miles behind the front line, the official added. It was unclear when he was killed.

I'm sure Obama is very distraught and broken up by this. No doubt he will cancel one of his hundreds of golf outings to attend the funeral, or at least he will send representatives and lower the flag.....right? Right?

Oh, wait a minute. I forgot. He only does that when a Black person or a Muslim dies. How silly of me to forget what a racist bastard he is. Ooops.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
Rational fear and anger at vicious murderous Islamic terrorists is the same as irrational antisemitism, according to the Leftists.

American killed in combat in Iraq was Navy SEAL

BAGHDAD (AP) — An American serviceman killed in Iraq by fire from the Islamic State group has been identified as a Navy SEAL.

A U.S. official says the SEAL was killed during an attack on Iraqi Kurdish positions outside the IS-held city of Mosul on Tuesday morning.

It was the third death of a U.S. service member in Iraq since the U.S.-led coalition launched its campaign against IS militants in the summer of 2014. Defense Secretary Ash Carter called it a "combat death."

The official identifying the serviceman as a SEAL was speaking on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to discuss the incident publicly.

Associated Press Writer Deb Riechmann contributed to this report.

Tuesday morning Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced a Navy SEAL operating as an advisor to Peshmerga forces was killed on the front lines against ISIS. Carter specifically said the SEAL was killed in combat after he was shot when ISIS soldiers broke through an Iraqi forces checkpoint and made their way to Peshmerga territory just outside of Mosul.

Despite the classification by Carter that the casualty was in fact a combat death, the White House is still refusing classify the role of U.S. troops in Iraq as combat. Since 2014, three U.S. service members have been killed in the war against ISIS.

"What I think is true is that Iraq and Syria are dangerous places and our men and women in uniform, who are engaged in a mission to offer training, advice and assistance to Iraqi forces that are fighting for their own country, are doing dangerous work. They are taking grave risks to protect our country. We owe them a deep debt of gratitude. Today's incident is a vivid reminder of the risks our service members are taking and some of them, three of them now, have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country," Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters Tuesday. "But the President has been clear, time and time again, exactly what their mission is. That mission is to support Iraqi forces on the ground who are taking the fight to ISIL on the front lines."

The White House also offered condolences to family.

I just posted a story about the administration refusing to admit troops are in combat, so I guess this didn't happen. :3:
