***BREAKING*** Supreme Court STANDS BEHIND Texas Voter ID Law – ‘It’s NOT Racist, To Ask For ID!’

Yes! The Supreme Court[1] gave Texas a victory today as they threw out a case challenging the voter ID law. Liberals argued it is racist to ask people for identification when voting. The Court said nope… it’s perfectly legal and acceptable. In fact, I call it common sense. The order passed down from the Supreme Court was unsigned… that means they don’t have to give positions or reasoning on their ruling. Finally, some sanity in the midst of all this chaos. It also means that at least five of the Justices on the Court aren’t buying the specious argument that minorities are so stupid they can’t produce ID to vote.

Voting[2]

From The Federalist Papers Project:

The Supreme Court tossed out one of the most nonsensical liberal arguments Friday by rejecting a challenge to Texas’ voter ID law.

The argument – that it’s somehow racist to ask people to show their identification when voting – was flatly rejected by the court, denying an emergency request from Latino groups and Democratic lawmakers, Fox News is reporting[3].

The order was unsigned, meaning they did not explain their reasoning or even if there was any dissent.

The same people who are protesting producing ID to vote, gladly do so when they go to get food stamps or any other government service or entitlement. There is another lawsuit against the Texas law – known as SB14 – that is still pending in federal court. A federal appeals court is hearing that case next month and the Supreme Court indicated they could revisit the issue again later this year. The Texas Voter ID Law is one of the strictest in the nation. It requires a photo ID to cast a ballot. Either a driver’s license or a state ID card will suffice. Evidently, there are over 600,000 eligible voters who don’t have picture ID. It’s not exactly hard to get, so there is no excuse as far as I’m concerned. State officials contend, however, that they haven’t had to turn away large numbers of voters – proof that the law doesn’t disenfranchise many people at all. This was a frivolous suit that should never have been allowed in the first place.

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected an emergency appeal to stop Texas from enforcing its challenged voter ID law. But the court said it could revisit the issue as the November elections approach.

The law has been in effect for recent elections, even after a trial judge struck it down in 2014 and an appellate panel found last year that the law had a discriminatory effect on minority voters.

The challengers in the ongoing lawsuit argue there is no reason to allow the requirement to show picture identification at the polls to remain in place.

But justices rejected the plea in a brief order Friday.

The full New Orleans-based appeals court will hold a new hearing on the Texas law in May.

The high court said that it is aware of "the time constraints the parties confront in light of the scheduled elections." If the full appeals court has not issued a ruling by July 20, the court said, it would entertain a renewed emergency appeal over the voter ID law.

Friday's order was the second time the justices have refused to block the voter ID law in Texas. In 2014, the court allowed the law to be used in the then-imminent general election. The order two years ago was issued two days before the start of early voter in Texas and without explanation, but appeared to be based on the court's view that changing the rules so close to an election would be confusing.

Three justices dissented in 2014: Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor.

Ginsburg, writing for the dissenters, said the ID requirement created the potential for "racially discriminatory voter disenfranchisement."

Other Republican-controlled states, including Wisconsin and North Carolina, have passed similar voter ID measures that also are being fought in the courts. But the Texas law is widely viewed as one of the nation's toughest. It requires one of seven forms of approved identification, but unlike other states with voter ID restrictions, Texas doesn't recognize university IDs from college students. It does, however, accept concealed handgun licenses as proof of identity.

Free voting IDs are available from the state, but opponents have said getting those cards still puts underlying financial costs on voters, such as paying for birth certificate copies and travel.

While there have been anecdotal reports of confusion in the Texas elections held while the law is in force, there haven't been widespread issues with people being unable to cast ballots because they lacked proper identification.

And you want Donald Trump?  He is the one reaching out to those Democrats that support illegal voting.
AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

Mod note, for the newer members:

Duplicate threads do happen, people are eager to share news stories. Or multiple sources are posted on the same story. That's fine. We'd far rather have multiples than miss an important new item! However, we do tend to merge threads when that happens to keep things neat.

If a duplicate is posted and it has replies when it gets noticed, it will be merged. If a duplicate gets posted which has yet no replies, it gets deleted since the oldest post is considered primary. If one of your article posts disappears, that is likely the case.

It has no effect on regular comment posts, they are simply moved and the new location updated in your "new replies to your posts" section.

You may now return to your scheduled discussion.

Would that this were true.  Unfortunately, very few states have voter ID laws.  Texas is an exception.  Here in Pennsylvania the legislature passed one only to have it knocked down by the state court.

thanks everyone- I'm pretty much a FR refugee- and several people from FR mentioned this site to me- and I'm glad they did- things seem much more civil here than on Fr these days- Far more mature here from everything I've read here- I'll be spreading the word too as I know many are getting pretty tired of the atmosphere on FR lately-

Again, thanks for the welcome-
