Quote
This past Sunday GOP frontrunner Donald Trump appeared on CBS’ 60 Minutes for a one-on-one interview with Scott Pelley about the state of the race and to discuss Trump’s specific positions on certain issues. The most enlightening moment came when the discussion turned to healthcare and Trump had the opportunity to excoriate Obamacare (rightly).

“Obamacare’s going to be repealed and replaced. Obamacare is a disaster if you look at what’s going on with premiums where they’re up 40, 50, 55 percent,” Trump told Pelley.

However, instead of then arguing that we should repeal Obamacare and return our nation to a free market based healthcare alternative, Trump actually said that he believed Obamacare wasn’t socialist enough and that the government had to completely take over the healthcare industry!

Donald Trump: “Everybody’s got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, ‘No, no, the lower 25 percent that can’t afford private.’ But…”

Scott Pelley: “Universal Healthcare?”

Donald Trump:  “I am going to take care of everybody. I don’t care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.”

Scott Pelley: “But who’s going to pay for it?”

Donald Trump: “The government’s gonna pay for it. But we’re going to save so much money on the other side!”

This is simply my opinion, with only my own observations to back it up.

I think obamacare paved the way for single payer healthcare. Now that throngs of baby boomers are retiring/retired, they want some form of healthcare that won't bankrupt them. The more fortunate of the working class have paid off their house just in time to replace the payment with healthcare premiums. And God forbid they actually get sick, that's a path to bankruptcy.

It's my opinion that the party that comes up with a fix/alternative to obamacare that works is going to do much to win over voters. Not to mention help a lot of Americans, (something that seems to be low on the list when doing political calculus.)

Something weird about that article, supposedly this interview just took place, but it is word for word an answer that was posted here weeks ago.  Once again - Trump said for the lower 25% that can't afford it, the government will pay for it - we have that now, it's called Medicaid.

After you wait forever for the page to load and punch through all the pop-ups, that is.

It is beyond comical at this point...  the interview with Pelley was on September 27, 2015, and there are several hundred posts on this forum debunking the false conclusions drawn by this article and dozens of others.

Mitt Romney admits universal healthcare plan he implemented as Massachusetts governor influenced Obamacare

Mitt Romney is finally taking credit — or admitting blame — for Obamacare.

After years of denying that Obamacare was closely modeled on the universal healthcare insurance plan Romney helped pass as Massachusetts governor, the former presidential candidate took credit for its influence in a Boston Globe obituary for a longtime friend, Staples owner Tom Stemberg.

"Without Tom pushing it, I don't think we would have had Romneycare," said Romney. "Without Romneycare, I don't think we would have Obamacare. So, without Tom a lot of people wouldn't have health insurance."

Hate to tell Romney, but a lot of people have health insurance now - they just don't have health CARE now.

They just can't ever use their health insurance unless they get hit by a truck or something and have to.  By the time you pay the large premiums and then have to satisfy the HUGE deductibles, you're in far worse shape than you were before Obamacare.  The poor always got Medicaid - they still get free health care without the insurance premiums and deductibles.

Now, it's the middle class staying home instead of going to the doctor because they can't afford it.

Yeah Romney, it's better now.  Thanks.

It's a good observation, though.

I suspect the free-market is the best place to look for a fix for health care financing.

The government is so entrenched in healthcare, both delivery and insurance, that the bureaucrats will never surrender their ground. There is a lot of money and power in ruling over heathcare.

A free-market solution is unlikely, only because the political class would never allow it.

Not going to pull up the sight based on problems with it that others experienced - BUT Trump supporting Single Payer / Universal Health Care has been no secret. Its long been known.

Among many many news sources that reported the same - Trump friendly Breitbart even reported on it back in September 2015.

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/09/28/trump-pushes-single-payer-healthcare-tax-increase-on-wealthy/

It didn't matter to Trump supporters in September, and it won't matter in January. They will either deny he said it, deny he meant it, or somehow justify it, by calling it a  justifiable growth of government.

Deny?  Justify?

Can't we have both?

You are aware that the 'Father of Universal Health Care' was the 70th Governor of Massachusetts.

Do you know who that was?

I'm done trying to converse with them! NO matter what you put in front of them they just attempt too rationalize it away! Hopeless!

Or you could actually read what Trump proposed, which is certainly not government single-payer no matter how many times you guys say it is.  I'm a Cruz supporter, by the way.

Out of curiosity, is there a GOP candidate running on repealing Medicaid?  If so, would someone please point them out to me.  I'd be interested in knowing this, given how it seems to be bad that Trump wants to keep it.
