Establishment Hails the Obamessiah’s Sermon on the Mount

America’s preeminent snake oil salesman was truly in rare form last night. In what was his final (thank God) State of the Union address, Barry delivered a volley of thinly veiled cheap shots at Republican front runner Donald Trump. Calling for Americans to reject the politics of fear and loathing and embrace the politics of bullshit that have become his trademark. El Presidente also defended his economic record despite the inconvenient truth that his administration’s rescue of the gamblers who sank the economy in 2008 and the Federal Reserve’s ongoing backstopping of the big Wall Street casinos have had little benefit to real Americans.
Obama also peddled the poison fruit that his crowning achievement, the massive dick in the hindquarters that is the Trans-Pacific Partnership aka Obamatrade as the panacea for future generations. He proudly touted the low unemployment rate – bogus because it never has included “discouraged” workers – and the creation of millions of jobs – no mention that the majority are low quality McJobs – with no mention of the growing economic inequality that has taken place on his watch. Most of all though, it was his series of dog-whistle attacks on Trump that won him the adoration of the establishment that he has so well served during these seven damnable years.
The Washington Post is positively orgasmic this morning, led by the Editorial Board’s lovingly delivered blowjob for Dear Leader: “In his final State of the Union, Obama pushes back against bigotry and fear-mongering”:
His recommendations are apt in a campaign season veering toward disaster. Mistrust of institutions, pessimism about the future, fear of terrorism, and resentment of economic inequality have voters considering handing the government to bloviators who offer simplistic and often offensive “solutions.” Mr. Obama sought to combat the nation’s discontent rather than use it for political advantage. “All the talk of America’s economic decline is political hot air,” he declared.
The nation has traveled a long way since the economic calamity of 2008 and 2009. Americans in many ways live better than they ever have — and certainly better than most people around the world. The facts do not suggest that the country is nearing collapse or self-destruction, as the rhetoric on the campaign trail so often implies. And even for very real problems, populist outbursts — bashing immigrants, the Federal Reserve, China and other easy targets — will not help.
Mr. Obama pushed back against bigotry in the GOP campaign — and fear-mongering in his own party. “We forged a Trans-Pacific Partnership to open markets, and protect workers and the environment, and advance American leadership in Asia,” he said of the trade agreement many Democrats oppose, explaining that it will open foreign markets to U.S. goods. He spoke of welcoming the opportunities that a changing economy offers rather than nursing nostalgia for the economy of the past.
Exactly the praise that can be expected from the top anti-Trump propaganda megaphone in America’s imperial city of Washington where there is good reason to fear Trump and the rising tide of sentiment in this once great country that we have all been betrayed by our “leaders”. The Trump revolution – whether he wins the GOP nomination or is taken out by the inevitable barrage of dirty tricks and black ops that lay in wait in the primaries – has sufficiently roused the rabble and they aren’t going to simply sit down and shut up once the election is over. No, this is an enduring movement that terrifies the Star-Bellied Sneetches in Beltwayland who could see their ability to continue to feast on the taxpayers like the bloodsucking parasites that they are threatened by outsiders who are on to the big con game.
The WAPO Editorial page was incandescent with applause for Obama’s poke in the eye to Trump on behalf of the elite. Dana Milbank who can always be counted on for smarmy anti-Trump tripe planted a big wet kiss on Obama’s ass in his column “Obama answers Trump’s dangerous demagoguery”:
President Obama’s final State of the Union address Tuesday night wasn’t a speech to Congress. It was a sermon to the nation.
It wasn’t about policy prescriptions, really, or even about Obama’s record in office. It was a speech about one man whose name the president never uttered in the House chamber — Donald Trump — and the fear the nativist billionaire is stoking across the land in his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. Obama’s address was an extraordinary — and welcome — departure from the staid and ritualistic State of the Union format, and it showed how this president has grown in office.
“America has been through big changes before ,” Obama said near the beginning of his speech. “Each time, there have been those who told us to fear the future . . . promising to restore past glory if we just got some group or idea that was threatening America under control. And each time, we overcame those fears.”
The Trump theme built throughout the speech. Americans “need to reject any politics that targets people because of race or religion,” the president said, addressing one of Trump’s applause lines: “This isn’t a matter of political correctness. It’s a matter of understanding what makes us strong. The world respects us not just for our arsenal; it respects us for our diversity and our openness and the way we respect every faith.”
This was presidential leadership as it should be…
Obama produced so much bullshit last night that it will take a fleet of dump trucks to haul it away but his dutiful water-carriers in the establishment media will treat his words as though God himself had burned them into tablets of stone.
