Vandals Desecrate Catholic Cemetery West of Jerusalem
« on: January 09, 2016, 07:17:11 pm »
Unknown assailants have desecrated a Catholic cemetery belonging to the Beit Jamal Monastery near Beit Shemesh, west of Jerusalem.

Several crosses were broken in the incident. The vandalism took place last month but only became public in recent days after a police complaint was filed.

This isn't the first time that the Franciscan monastery is targeted by vandalism and violence. Catholic officials say that a similar incident took place in the end of September, and in March 2014 anti-Christian slogans were spray-painted on the monastery's walls.

In 2013 a firebomb was thrown at the monastery.

The Catholic Church condemned the crime and called on the police to bring the perpetrators to justice. It noted, however, that no suspects were arrested after similar incidents in the past.
