That's why I prefer to know little to nothing about entertainers.  I want them to entertain me, and the less I know about them the more I like them.

Most people feel the same, but these dumbasses continue to do it. Just look at the Box Office poison that Clooney turned into.

I call that "Taking themselves WAYYY too seriously."  It ruins them for half the audience, no matter which side they choose.  They need to learn how to STFU.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

That explains why now pretty much the only tv shows I watch are KDramas,  I don't have to know what these actors opinions are.

Vaughn was a devout Communist. The election results probably assisted in his demise.

How do you know he was a Communist?

"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

Leon Russell, musician known for dynamic performances, dies at 74

Quote
Leon Russell, who emerged in the '70s as one of rock'n'roll's most dynamic performers and songwriters after playing anonymously on dozens of pop hits as a much-in-demand studio pianist in the 1960s, died on Sunday at the age of 74, according to his website...

Russell recorded more than 35 albums and also excelled as a songwriter for other performers. His "A Song for You" was recorded by Joe Cocker, the Carpenters, the Temptations, Neil Diamond, Lou Rawls, Dusty Springfield, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and his good friend Willie Nelson. The Carpenters, Reddy, Shirley Bassey, Robert Goulet and George Benson all covered Russell's "This Masquerade," with Benson's version winning the 1976 Grammy as record of the year...

Having gone to college in Tulsa, I always had a soft spot for Leon Russell.

SOURCE: THE DAILY BEAST

URL: http://www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2016/11/14/gwen-ifill-dead-at-61.html?via=desktop&source=copyurl

Long-time journalist and newscaster Gwen Ifill passed away at the age of 61, PBS confirmed on Monday. Ifill was best known as being the moderator and managing editor of PBS talk show Washington Week, as well as the co-anchor of PBS NewsHour. She moderated two vice-presidential debates, between John Edwards and Dick Cheney in 2004; and between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden in 2008.

Ifill also moderated a Democratic debate between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders just last year. She released her only book, The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama, in 2009.

“I am very sad to tell you that our dear friend and beloved colleague Gwen Ifill passed away today in hospice care in Washington,” WETA President and CEO Sharon Percy Rockefeller wrote in a staff-wide email. “I spent an hour with her this morning and she was resting comfortably, surrounded by loving family and friends... Earlier today, I conveyed to Gwen the devoted love and affection of all of us at WETA/NewsHour. Let us hold Gwen and her family even closer now in our hearts and prayers.”

The Daily Beast has learned that Ifill was extraordinarily private about her health and was reluctant to publicly share the details of her battle with cancer. She first learned of her diagnosis less than a year ago and was surrounded by family when she passed away.

I saw him twice. First about 1976 at Universal Amphitheater, in LA. Then about 1993 at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, Calif.

At Universal the act was "The Leon and Mary Russell Show" with his then wife, Mary McCreary. It was outstanding.

At the Coach House, he opened for headliner B.B. King.

I'm truly sorry to hear this news. Hallelujah is a tremendous song. One of the best versions I ever heard was recorded by the distractingly masculine-looking but angelically voiced K.D. Lang:

Just ran across this version sung by a public elementary school choir.....

Wow.  These kids can sing!

Melvin Laird, Nixon defense secretary at the height of the Vietnam War, dies at 94

Quote
Melvin R. Laird, a former congressman who served as President Richard M. Nixon’s defense secretary at the height of the Vietnam War and designed policies that eventually led to the American withdrawal from combat operations, died Nov. 16 at a hospital in Fort Myers, Fla. He was 94.

The cause was complications from congestive heart failure, said a son, David Laird.

A shrewd and influential Wisconsin Republican, Mr. Laird became his party’s leading expert on military affairs during his 16 years in the House of Representatives.
