Jack Chick, a controversial California-based evangelist who used comic books to spread the gospel, died Sunday at the age of 92, according to a note on his Facebook page.

“Brothers and Sisters in Christ: Brother Jack Chick passed away Sunday evening, October 23, peacefully in his sleep. He was 92,” the note said.

“He will be interred in a small private ceremony. Condolences can be sent to Chick Publications, and they will be taken to his widow. God bless you all.”

Chick is best known for his empire of comic-book-style Christian tracts, which often featured in-your-face confrontations against beliefs and philosophies that did not agree with evangelical Protestantism, especially Catholicism and Judaism, leading some to consider him a religious bigot.

Horror host Zacherley dies at 98



John Zacherle had a career in radio that spanned four decades, but is best known for his relatively short eight-year stint as a horror host in New York City and Philadelphia from 1957 to 1965, helping to popularize the television format. The comic horror host would be Zacherle's best known character, and he would appear in character throughout the rest of his life. Although he was forced into retirement at 78 after a format change at the radio station he was working at in 1996, he continued to make many public appearances in character, and his fame outside New York and Philadelphia grew in part because his longevity allowed him to be seen.

Even before his national touring, Zacherley was known nationwide for his one-hit wonder novelty hit "Dinner with Drac," a record released with the help of his close friend, Dick Clark.

Zacherley had no wife or chlidren, but was uncle to three, including Bonnie Zacherle, the creator of the My Little Pony franchise, and for that may be indirectly responsible for perhaps one of the scariest aspects of modern culture: bronies.

'Tuck Everlasting' Author Natalie Babbitt Dies at 84

My Mother in Law (whom I actually loved), two days ago, of cancer. She wasn't famous, would not want to be mentioned by name, but was beloved by 13 brothers, two sisters (most have passed before her), two surviving children, a platoon of grandchildren, and an army of great-grandchildren. She will be missed. She was twenty years older than Mrs. Joe.

MIAMI –  Janet Reno, the first woman to serve as U.S. attorney general and the epicenter of several political storms during the Clinton administration, has died. She was 78.

Reno died early Monday from complications of Parkinson's disease, her goddaughter Gabrielle D'Alemberte said. D'Alemberte said Reno spent her final days at home in Miami surrounded by family and friends.

Reno, a former Miami prosecutor who famously told reporters "I don't do spin," served nearly eight years as attorney general under President Bill Clinton, the longest stint in a century.

One of the administration's most recognizable and polarizing figures, Reno faced criticism early in her tenure for the deadly raid on the Branch Davidian compound at Waco, Texas, where sect leader David Koresh and some 80 followers perished.

I'll second that. Reno's passing is a reminder that even though a person might get away with murder in this life there will come a day of reckoning, nonetheless.

Maybe you guys can help me.  I seem to remember a story about Ms. Reno that said she and her mother invented something that made buildings more hurricane-proof.  Now I can't find the story, so maybe I was dreaming (or having a nightmare?)  Anyway, do any of  you recall that story and if so, can you provide a link?

Songwriter Leonard Cohen dies at 82



Born into a Jewish family in an English-speaking part of Montreal, and maintaining his faith throughout his life, Cohen began his career as a prose and poetry writer, before deciding that music would be more lucrative. It would be in music where he made his biggest impact: among his early band members was Charlie Daniels. Cohen often embedded Biblical themes in much of his music; among some of his best-known compositions were "Suzanne" and perhaps his best-known piece in modern times, "Hallelujah." His musical career spanned 50 years, from the mid-1960s until his death.

Robert Vaughn, Suave Star of TV's 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,' Dies at 83

Vaughn, who received an Oscar nomination for playing Paul Newman’s hard-drinking buddy Chet in the 1959 drama The Young Philadelphians, died of acute leukemia in a hospital on the East Coast, his manager Matthew Sullivan told The Hollywood Reporter. He had been undergoing treatment for his illness in New York and Connecticut.

Vaughn's memorable performances also included turns as one of the seven gunmen in The Magnificent Seven (1960), as a steely senator in Bullitt (1968) — those two opposite Steve McQueen — as an addled studio chief in Blake Edwards’ S.O.B. (1981) and as a corporate villain in Superman III (1983).

Just saw Vaughn in an episode of Law & Order SVU.  He played an elderly author with dementia who was allegedly being abused by his much younger wife.  I was a teenager when Man From U.N.C.L.E was popular and I did not miss an episode.  My parents couldn't understand whyI was so obsessed with the show.  It was a lot of fun.

He was a Democrat, but I won't hold that against him.

That's why I prefer to know little to nothing about entertainers.  I want them to entertain me, and the less I know about them the more I like them.
