Veteran comic actor Leslie Nielsen, star of Airplane! and The Naked Gun, has died at the age of 84.

He died in hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he was being treated for pneumonia, his agent John S Kelly said.

Canadian-born Nielsen started out as a serious actor but in 1980, his role as a hapless doctor in the disaster spoof film Airplane! made him a comic star.

In all, he appeared in more than 100 films and had a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

"With his friends and his wife by his side, he just fell asleep and passed away," his nephew Doug Nielsen told the AFP news agency.

Legendary actor Abe Vigoda -- who starred in "The Godfather" -- died under hospice care at the age of 94 ... TMZ has learned.

Abe's death had been falsely reported countless times, dating all the way back to 1982.

Abe played Tessio in "The Godfather" and also "The Godfather Part II." In fact, he was still doing the voice for Tessio in 'Godfather' video games as late as 2007.

His most famous role on TV was as Detective Phil Fish on the '80s sitcom "Barney Miller" ... which once worked the infamous hoax reports of Abe's death into a storyline.

So many passing now...I would suspect that hard "living" is playing a role in that. 1967, the year that many new American bands began to emerge in the long shadow of The Beatles. It was a good year for Airplane in San Francisco (my sister used to live on Jefferson Street in the Marina District - which was the source of the name Jefferson in Airplane) and The Doors in LA.

Jefferson Street might have crossed the band's mind, but the actual story may have been the name coming from a nickname once
attached to Jorma Kaukonen---Blind Lemon Jefferson Airplane, a tribute to his passion for acoustic blues.

There was a story I read a little while back while researching something else.

Arlo Guthrie and Wavy Gravy the Hippie Clown were having a conversation. A talent agent approached Gravy around 2014 trying to gauge support for a 45th anniversary reunion of the Woodstock celebration. Guthrie responded that 45 was a weird number for an anniversary and asked "why not 50th?" Gravy responded that the agent was afraid "there won't be enough of us left!"

First Bowie, then Glen Frey, and now Paul Kantner. Sure makes a body feel old. I remember buying "Volunteers" the day it came out, and letting it play for hours on my cheap automatic turntable as I did my junior high homework. I used to sing "The Baby Tree" to my kids when they were small. To this day, the hottest rock star I ever saw was Gracie (yeah, she's gotten older too).

Watch Her Ride is a great song, from the Airplane's greatest record, IMO, Baxter's. Thanks for the vid, E-Ace.

Here's hoping that Kantner, a notorious atheist, now knows there's a merciful God, and is up on A-Deck gazing at the stars.

LONDON – Terry Wogan, one of the best-known voices and faces on British television and radio, has died. He was 77.

His family said in a statement Wogan died Sunday surrounded by family members "after a short but brave battle with cancer."

Probably unknown to most here, but he was a small god of the radio for the UK. Had the breakfast show on Radio 2 for decades, Was the face of the Children in Need appeal (and the Eurovision Song Contest, but no one is perfect), and a chat show host that was top for the heap for a long time.
