(CNSNews.com) - At news conference in Paris on Tuesday, President Obama said "the most elegant way" to reduce carbon emissions is "to put a price on it."

He was responding to a reporter who asked Obama, "I wonder if you see any political path back home toward putting a price on carbon?"

"I have long believed that the most elegant way to drive innovation and to reduce carbon emissions is to put a price on it. This is a classic market failure," Obama replied.

"If you open up an Econ 101 textbook, it will say the market's very good about determining prices and allocating capital towards its most productive use, except there's certain externalities, there's certain things that the market just doesn't count, it doesn't price, at least not on its own. Clean air is an example; clean water -- or the converse, dirty water, dirty air.

IMHO, this is part of the reason why there will be a United Nations hub in D.C. and this "hub" won't be limited to "human rights" it will be expanded to oversee and regulate energy consumption in this country.  Get ready for "renewed" water and electric meters on homes and businesses...going over the limit that you will be allotted will cost you a fortune in addition to the new rates (tax). Also, I don't think it's going to stop there.  The "hub" will be expanded to oversee gun rights and implement gun control. Don't think for a minute that just because Congress never approved the small arms treaty that Hussein signed with the U.N. won't be implemented.  This all has long been part of his agenda and part of his Global Poverty Act that was proposed while he was Senator. Biden was pushing it at the time as well.

There is nothing "elegant" about the heavy hand of state socialism.

But try telling that to someone like Obama, who has lived over half a century and yet managed to avoid any contact with private enterprise that did not avoid accepting a payment in tribute, or more correctly, in fear of the consequences of not paying tribute.

What Obama considers "market failure" is nothing of the kind. Third-party effects of commerce have costs (pollution) and also sometimes benefits (higher property values), but these are effectively priced into products and services by means of consumer demand as well as by tort law concepts (e.g. - easements and loss of use), insurance policies, and other private arrangements.

When a socialist speaks of "market failure", what he really means to say is that he doesn't like or agree with the decisions that other people are making, and wants to use government force to make them do what he thinks is correct.
