Huckabee calls on Ryan to prevent entry of Syrian refugees, or to step down

By Nick Gass

Mike Huckabee laced into the U.S.' anti-ISIL strategy on Monday, calling on House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) to prevent more Syrian refugees from entering the country without assurances that they can be sussed out from potential terrorist threats in their midst, in the wake of Friday's deadly attacks in Paris.

If not, the former Arkansas governor warned, the newly-elected House speaker should resign.

"It's embarrassing when a left-wing socialist French President shows strength and determination to eradicate animals who are slaughtering innocent civilians while our President lectures us on the moral necessity to open our borders to tens of thousands of un-vetted people from the Middle East. France has closed its borders and all President Obama wants to do is close Gitmo," Huckabee wrote in his statement, referring to French President François Hollande's declaration that his country is at war and Obama's Monday defense of allowing Syrian refugees to enter the United States.

Among Republicans, he went on, the new speaker of the House "needs to make it clear that if the President won't stand to protect America from wholesale open borders, then Republicans will."

"If Ryan will not lead and reject the importation of those fleeing the Middle East without assurances that we can separate refugees from terrorists, then Speaker Ryan needs to step down today and let someone else lead," he wrote.

That caveat is BS.  The Obama Administration will do some ridiculous Q&A with them and give assurance after assurance and do what they want anyway.  There is no good reason for them to come here - they can stay in the Middle East as refugees.  Make up some camps and "safe places" there.  No reason for any "assurances" or caveats - simply stop them from being imported here period.

What method does Reverend Huckabee propose using to override a predictable Presidential veto of any such attempt by the House GOP ??

Huckabee just needed to say anything, to get on the news.

So much ranting about "constitutionalism" yet backed by such a shallow grasp of our constitution in practice.

WHY are you ALWAYS so ready to surrender on things simply because the president MAY decide to veto them?

If ISIS is contained, why do we need to accept refugees? It should be safe there.

GREAT question.  I say let him veto and veto and veto.  Let the voters know and remember next November.

I don't want any refugees coming in. Period. -- so, let the name-calling begin. Here, I'll start it off: I'm a xenophobe, ...

Every veto is a nail in Hillary's coffin.  This is a wedge that if the Republicans are fearless in wielding it, will create fracture after fracture in the Democrats.  Let him veto it every single day.  It is a stake pointed right at Hillary's heart and will let the next Republican president wipe out everything Obama has done.

Of course, I used the term fearless there...so I ain't holding my breath.
