Police helicopters to monitor asylum centres in Sweden
The Swedish police is now taking decisive measures to stop the asylum centre fires around the country. A number of asylum centres have been set ablaze recently, and among other things, police helicopters equipped with infrared cameras will monitor the sites to detect fires and potential offenders.
The National Operations Division (Noa) has been given the operational responsibility to coordinate all investigation of the fires.
The group includes staff from the section for special investigative counsel, operational case analysts, GMP (criminal profiling group), forensic scientists and people from the cybercrime center (Internet reconnaissance) and the intelligence unit.
The police, who consider the asylum chaos as a special event, will now also use police aviation to carry out preventive monitoring of asylum accommodations.
- Police helicopters can cover large areas and are good complements to other supervision, says Jonas Hysing, national command manager.
Police helicopters will monitor asylum accommodations in all police regions, but will also focus on current intelligence assessments. The helicopters have advanced technical equipment and can detect things that one do not always see from the ground.
- With infrared cameras, we see very well even in total darkness and can direct police patrols to a suspect, says Bengt Grönlund, head of the police aviation.
