And with the most ridiculous stereotypes of femaleness. How many real women even come close to resembling the cartoonishness of this bloated nutjob in NH or the drag queens on TV?

Exactly.  They are not only coopting and colonizing what it means to be female, they are degrading it and invalidating it; reducing it to a mean caricature of the "painted lady" sort.

HelloFresh accused of using coconut milk obtained from monkey labor

HelloFresh uses coconut milk obtained from monkey labor in Thailand, according to allegations from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which is calling for a boycott of the meal delivery service.

Monkeys are chained, whipped, beaten and forced to spend long hours picking coconuts, an investigation by PETA Asia alleges. Claims of animals abuse are alleged at 57 operations in nine provinces of Thailand, according to the findings released on Monday.

In a statement to CBS MoneyWatch, HelloFresh said the company receives written assurances from its suppliers that its coconuts are not procured using monkeys.  ...

Most of the monkeys are kidnapped from their families in nature, even though the species exploited by the coconut trade are threatened or endangered, according to the animal-welfare group. ...

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia woman died Thanksgiving Day after she stole an ambulance from a capital city hospital emergency room and crashed it into the Kanawha River, authorities said.

Elizabeth Reed of Hinton was a patient at Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital when she took Cedar Grove Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Unit 64 just after 12:30 a.m., Charleston Police Department officials said in a news release. Reed then began driving toward Kanawha Boulevard.

Five minutes later, she struck a concrete barrier near Chesapeake Avenue and went over the embankment into the Kanawha River, police said. ...

Really don't care that some whack a doodle offed her self, the sad thing about this story is an ambulance removed from service and how many people will be affected by slower response times.

The fire department that owns the ambulance is in my father's very tiny hometown, too. I'd be surprised if they have another in service.

Man shoots himself in the balls after being caught relieving himself by police

Another day, and yet another example of karma working its wicked way once again.

A man who was caught urinating in the street accidentally shot himself in the privates while attempting to get rid of a gun he was carrying.

Javier Thomas, 26, was caught relieving himself in a Brooklyn street in the early hours of Saturday, and immediately attempted to throw away his 9-mm Glock pistol.

But he was left in agony when he accidentally pulled the trigger and shot himself in the privates, police said.

Thomas was taken to Kings County Hospital with a non-life threatening wound, and was later arrested on charges of weapon possession and reckless endangerment.

A rowdy American Airlines passenger urinated on another traveler aboard a flight from New York to Delhi over the weekend.

The man, who was reportedly drunk and “unruly,” was arrested after Flight 292 out of JFK Airport landed at the Delhi airport around 9 p.m. Sunday, New Delhi Television reported.

American Airlines confirmed that a disruption happened on the flight in a statement but spared the stomach-turning details.

“American Airlines flight 292 with service from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) was met by local law enforcement upon arrival in DEL due to a disruption on board,” the company told local outlets. ...

Police: Man tried to steal Bremerton fast ferry for upcoming ‘revolution’

By L.B. GILBERT, MyNorthwest Content Editor
April 25, 2023 at 12:18 pm PDT

BREMERTON, Wash. — Police in Bremerton arrested a man Sunday who illegally boarded an out-of-service fast ferry and allegedly tried to steal it.

A woman and her two kids were waiting for a ferry to Seattle and watched from nearby as the man pushed buttons in the wheelhouse.

A ferry captain on a different ferry saw the man on the fast ferry and alerted authorities.

Bremerton Police spokesperson Aaron Elton says the man is in his 40s and told police a revolution was coming, and that’s why he needed to take the boat.

The man faces charges of burglary, theft, malicious mischief, and unlawful transit conduct.

DUI suspect in Colorado reportedly tried to switch seats with his dog when pulled over by police
By Tony Keith

SPRINGFIELD, Colo. (KKTV) - It appears a man suspected of DUI in Colorado was trying to get out of the charges by putting his dog behind the wheel of the car he was driving.

The Springfield Police Department (SPD) shared details for the odd incident on their Facebook page. According to police, the suspect was pulled over in the Springfield area on the south side of Colorado at about 11:30 on Saturday night. The driver was reportedly driving 52 MPH in a 30 MPH zone.

“The driver attempted to switch places with his dog who was in the passenger seat, as the SPD officer approached and watched the entire process,” part of a post by Springfield Police reads. “The male party then exited the passenger side of the vehicle and claimed he was not driving. The male party showed clear signs of intoxication and when asked about his alcohol consumption the male party ran from the Officer. The male party was apprehended quickly within about 20 yards of the vehicle.” ...

Thanks, but I am afraid of "30 day free" plans, and the problems they can cause when the 30 days runs out and you don't buy  the plan.

Right now I  am VERY "vexed" at Norton for selling me a virus protection program that was NOT cheap, and having that program include  software that told me I needed to upgrade  immediately for $79.95 if you don't want  to be turned into a frog!"

"Vexed" to the point I sent them a nastygram about this, and am considering demanding a full refund of the money I have already paid them.

Ok,since I now  plan on deleting Norton if I hear  what I expect to hear from them, what anti-virus  programs do you  all recommend?

Please keep in mind  that I am not a computer pro,and I am on a limited budget.

Just doing that (removing Norton) can be quite a challenge as it spreads itself all over your hard drive and running the uninstall program just makes you think it's gone @sneakypete .  I've had to wipe the whole thing (hd) off and start over to actually get rid of it in the past.  Now I won't even allow it in the same room with any machine I own.

This might sound unbelievable to you, but the standard MS Defender that comes free with Windows now has worked just fine around here for years normally with three computers on the network all the time.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

I use the free version of Avast and haven't had any problems.

@bigheadfred

Thanks!

That is a name I haven't heard in a long time, and wouldn't even have thought of looking it up.

Not up to  reformatting any hard drives at this point in my life, though. Chemo fried my short-term memory, and I get confused from just changing screens to check my email. This is one of the reasons I get into so many political arguments here. People challenge me to post info I post, and I can't remember where I got it from.

I can actually remember back to wearing diapers in color, but have no freaking clue as to what I did, said,or who I saw and talked with  3 days ago.

LOL! I know! It's a LOT easier than it used to be but I hope you don't have to do it. @sneakypete

And BTW: I can remember every detail of something that happened 50 or 60 years ago but what I had for breakfast this morning is sometimes a challenge.

@Bigun

This is clearly punishment for us not having had enough fun while we were still young enough to have fun.

I am not sure it is all MY fault, though. It's not like I didn't try.

Basically... Nothing. If you ain't high risk, going to porn sites or hacker sites, or un-reputable movie sites, AND YOU ARE CONSISTENTLY BEHIND A ROUTER, and not at public sites, you're probably alright with Microsoft's onboard AV and firewall.

This box I am on seldom leaves this house, and I have *NO* added security features beyond the stock Windows stuff... It has never had a virus in years, and I can back that up, because I keep Emsisoft's EEK Emergency kit onboard as a secondary system and check it frequently.

Now, if you don't want to play nice...

The king is still Kaspersky IMHO. But just their AV... If you get the full suite it's a fat pig.
Eset's NOD is top shelf.

Either of those if you are high risk.

Sophos is super too - and free. It is an end-point rig, so not a lot of controls in your box... you have to go online to do all that... But it is good. really good.

My house is Kaspersky on the operational boxen... All the stuff that might come in contact with boxes coming across my bench...

The rest of it, all the business stuff and media stuff is (paid) Sophos.

I use ESet's NOD32 Antivirus and highly recommend it. I also agree to only install NOD32 and not the full suite of Internet protection programs.

I will say that there is substantial risk just reading the news and/or visiting other various mainline sites due to the ad servers. I've had multiple virus/trojan blocking events due to infected ads on otherwise common sites. If you use the internet, you need protection - at least on a Windows based machine.

YEP. Just check back every now and then with a good alternative on-demand scanner.

Emsisoft's EEK is one I use a lot. Emsisoft is the old A-Squared trojan hunter, so I have been with em since Hector was a pup.

Their EEK kit installs to your root directory and does nothing. It is all on-demand. But it has a built in updater for both the program and the defs, so just running it will update it to the newest version and defs.

That little kit is on most all of my boxes, just sitting there. But when it is needed, it is still among the best... It is a badass hunter/killer.

I can recommend other on-demand scanners, but I like this one the best. And I have a paid subscription that I maintain, even though I don't use their main software much. I use the dickens out of that EEK kit.

Ain't been bit in years and years... But then, I also run Ublock Origin add-on in all my browsers, so ad scripts are all blocked. I never see em. If you are not running an ad-blocker you ought to be.
