Obama: Religious freedom no excuse to deny rights to others
« on: September 28, 2015, 06:03:23 am »
I've read the Constitution several times and don't recall where it speaks of the rights of homosexuals to marry, and I seem to recall something about freedom of religion. But what the heck, Obama is an expert on the Constitution, a college professor who taught it actually, so I guess I will defer to his far greater expertise.

"NEW YORK (AP) — Freedom of religion isn't reason enough to deny any American their constitutional rights, President Barack Obama said Sunday as he addressed members of the LGBT community, one of his major sources of political and financial support.

Speaking at a Democratic Party fundraiser, Obama said it's important to recognize that some parts of the country remain uncomfortable with same-sex marriage and that it will take time for them to catch up to the majority of Americans who support such unions.

But while Americans hold dear the constitutional right to practice their religion free from government interference, , he said that right can't be used to deny constitutional rights to others.

"We affirm that we cherish our religious freedom and are profoundly respectful of religious traditions," Obama said during remarks that were interrupted by repeated applause and cheers. "But we also have to say clearly that our religious freedom doesn't grant us the freedom to deny our fellow Americans their constitutional rights."

"And that even as we are respectful and accommodating genuine concerns and interests of religious institutions, we need to reject politicians who are supporting new forms of discrimination as a way to scare up votes. That's not how we move America forward," he added. That was an apparent reference to some of the Republican presidential candidates."

Yeah, like the guy said, we "hold dear the constitutional right to practice their religion free from government interference." You bet, Bambi.

Some parts of the world remain uncomfortable with beheadings and burning people alive simply because they are of a different religion, too, but it doesn't seem to bother Bathhouse Barry.

What majority? there still isn't a majority to take out Christians beliefs. No state voted for these unions if I remember correctly?

Can't think of any - maybe one of the East coast shrapnel states. When even California says no, the majority opinion is pretty much the other way.

California turned it down just a couple of years ago.

Those of us who know there is such a thing as a moral absolute don't ever 'evolve' when it comes to moral issues, Barry.

We're never going to "catch up" with something that is wrong.....
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

"Sometimes I think the Church would be better off if we would call a moratorium on activity for about six weeks and just wait on God to see what He is waiting to do for us. That's what they did before Pentecost."   - A. W. Tozer

Use the time God is giving us to seek His will and feel His presence.

Actually at least 3 have by popular vote: Maine, Washington, and Maryland. Several others have done so through their legislatures.
