“We nailed him.”
So said MSNBC’s far-left personality, Chris Mathews to equally far-left personality, Bill Maher during a taping of the latter’s show yesterday. Both men appeared confident the end of Donald Trump’s campaign to be President of the United States was all but over after Mr. Trump did not go out of his way to challenge an audience member at a campaign rally in New Hampshire who declared Barack Obama was a Muslim.
“We nailed him and we’re so glad we caught him.”
Mathews claimed it was at his request that MSNBC showed live footage of the Trump campaign rally in which a member of the audience stood up and declared his personal views regarding Barack Obama’s true religious affiliation and the ongoing threat of radical Muslims inside of America. When Donald Trump appeared to first briefly laugh at the man’s statement and then move on to another participant’s question, Mathews claims he knew then they had “nailed” Trump on what he earlier described as, “this racist crap.”
Mathews felt Mr. Trump should have challenged the questioner’s assertions much like John McCain did during a similar incident in 2008. What Mathews failed to include in his historical context was that McCain’s refusal to listen to an opposing viewpoint in 2008 was yet another example of why conservatives viewed his campaign with such tepid indifference. People were attempting to warn Senator McCain of Barack Obama’s radical background but McCain, fearful of media backlash, declared such criticisms to be off limits – including his staffers silencing his far more popular running mate – Governor Sarah Palin.
Both Mathews and Maher suggested they were witnessing the moment that the Trump campaign imploded as Maher’s audience cheered its approval.
