    President Obama and his daughters arrived in the Big Apple on Friday for a rare father-daughter weekend
    They lingered in Italian restaurant past 11pm then went for a private tour around the new Whitney Museum
    On Saturday, the trio and Sasha's two friend slept until 11.30am then met Obama's sister in Central Park
    Later they are going to see hip hop musical Hamilton about the founding fathers before flying home to D.C.
    Their first stop was at a Democrat fundraiser on Friday held by shipping magnate George Logothetis

President Obama and his teenage daughters took a stroll through Central Park on Saturday morning after a fun-filled late night in New York.

Malia, 17, and Sasha, 14, are enjoying a rare trip alone with their father, having taken a number of vacations to China and Europe with First Lady Michelle.

And it seems the president was keen to show them a good time.

The trio lingered in an Italian restaurant in Greenwich Village past 11pm on Friday before driving the motorcade around the city's streets then taking a private after-hours tour of the new Whitney Museum on the Hudson River.

On Saturday, there was no sign of the First Family until around 11.30am as they enjoyed a rare lie-in before an activity-filled day.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Helicopters whirling overhead, a phalanx of New York police officers on scooters to shoo away tourists, and about 50 anxious Secret Service agents fanning out in front, to the sides, and to the rear.

That is how you take a Saturday stroll in Central Park when you are the president of the United States.

President Barack Obama - who has often chafed at the confines of his office - was in Manhattan this weekend, trying to spend some time with his daughters and show them a good time in the big city.

With 18 months left in office, Obama is both working hard on a long to-do list of things he wanted to accomplish as president, but also looking forward to the next chapter of his life, when he can move around with more freedom.

Saturday was not the first time Obama has tried to break though the bubble of security and officialdom that surrounds him to try to do something ordinary - a mission that is almost impossible despite the power of his office.

But it was the first time in years he has managed to take a stroll though Central Park, in the city where he studied at Columbia University in the 1980s.

In 2012, after four years in office, Obama spoke wistfully about the loss of anonymity and spontaneity that comes with the job.

At a campaign event before his re-election, he recounted a scheme he hatched to use a fake mustache to take a walk and get a hot dog on a beautiful day in Manhattan - an idea the Secret Service quickly nixed.

"I said, 'You know, I just desperately want to take a walk through Central Park again, and just remember what that feels like,'" he recalled.

Last weekend, the Obama girls were treated to an expensive trip to New York City, courtesy of American taxpayers.

While their father fraternized with the wealthy elite of the city, 17 year-old Malia and 14 year-old Sasha headed out for a night on the town with their friends. Photos leaked of the girls partying with their friends at the fancy Ruby’s Cafe in Nolita on Saturday night.

According to New York Daily News, the girls arrived at the restaurant with eight friends at 9:15 on Saturday night. Malia ordered $12.50 chicken avocado salad while Sasha, 14, opted for a cheeseburger, which her mother Michelle would definitely not approve of.

The check ended up being over $100, and the Obama girls were eager to pay it, likely with money their parents gave them from American tax dollars.

Though the girls were clearly trying to draw attention to themselves, the New York crowd was left unimpressed by them.

“No one even looked in their direction,” revealed fellow diner Emma Andrews. “Secret Service was all over the place.”

Though Malia is underage, she is currently working as an intern on the set of Lena Dunham’s X-rated television show Girls, which is known for it’s frequent nude scenes.

Clearly, the Obamas don’t care at all what their daughters are doing. They let them run around the world without supervision, despite the fact that they are both underage. Perhaps the Obamas should stop telling us how to raise our kids, and start focusing on their own!

I don't have a problem with him spending time with his girls.  They're beautiful, btw.

He' using them as props, and tying up an entire neighborhood or section of the city.

It's what 'benevolent' dictators do.
