Trump Refuses To Release Birth Certificate, College Transcripts

Back in 2012 when President Obama was running for re-election, Donald Trump jumped on the “birther” bandwagon and demanded the President release his birth certificate, passport and college transcripts.

It caused a controversy so – either tongue in cheek or just to irritate the now-Presidential candidate, back then, the U.K. Guardian asked Trump for his own college transcripts. Here’s how it went down in October 2012:

But when the Guardian contacted Trump’s office to ask for Trump’s college and passport records, it was accused of “trying to be funny” and the request was deemed to be “stupid”.

“I tell you what, he’ll provide them to you when you provide yours to him,” said Michael Cohen, executive vice president at the Trump Organization and special counsel to Trump, in what began as a friendly encounter.

I readily agreed to the deal, and offered to provide my college records and passport-application records to the Trump office for inspection. That seemed to prompt a change of heart.

“But what’s your point? Mr Trump’s not the president of the United States and he’s not running for the presidency,” Cohen said. “And pretty much all you need to do is go to one of the thousand different books that Mr Trump has been featured in or has written and so on, and you could learn more about him than you know about pretty much anybody on the planet.”

And I suppose Cohen made a point … Trump wasn’t running for president and is under no obligation – unlike a candidate – to release any information, right?

So now that he’s running for president, certainly he’d release the exact same records he demanded Obama release. Not so much:

Yet when Trump’s representatives were contacted and asked to release the same documents the campaign refused to send them, despite the Guardian providing both a fax number and a full postal address. The campaign declined to comment further.

And that’s the dictionary definition of “hypocrisy,” isn’t it, folks?
