Americans Stuck in Yemen Sue US to Force Evacuations

Dozens of American citizens who are stuck in war-torn Yemen are suing the United States in a bid to get it to evacuate them, rights groups announced Thursday.

The move comes after the United States this week acknowledged it has no immediate plans to rescue its nationals stranded in Yemen and urged them to flee the raging conflict by sea.

Three organizations — the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, the Council on American-Islamic Relations and Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Asian Law Caucus — said the lawsuit against Secretary of State John Kerry and Defense Secretary Ashton Carter demands government action to evacuate the nationals.

The plaintiffs are 41 American citizens or permanent residents trapped in Yemen who are challenging "the constitutionality of the United States government's action and/or failure to act to protect United States citizens in Yemen, whose lives are in danger from ongoing military action and violent attacks," the lawsuit states.

"Despite the clear danger to Americans in Yemen -- and the death of at least one American -- the Obama administration has not yet taken any substantive steps to help citizens or permanent residents reach safety," the suit adds.

The plaintiffs are among more than 450 people who registered on a website called StuckInYemen.com that appeared a few days ago accusing "the United States government and embassies (of abandoning) Yemeni Americans in February 2015."

The State Department said Thursday that it was "aware" of some American citizens who remain in Yemen.

"We remain in contact, through a variety of means, to advise American citizens in Yemen about the opportunities that present themselves for people who leave if they choose," spokesman Jeff Rathke said.

"Just yesterday, we put out two rather detailed messages to American citizens in Yemen about opportunities to depart," he added.

He did not say how many US citizens are still in Yemen.

[[ The move comes after the United States this week acknowledged it has no immediate plans to rescue its nationals stranded in Yemen and urged them to flee the raging conflict by sea. ]]

This shows how low we have sunk under obama & co.

There was a time the Marines would have been sent in.

Now they probably wouldn't even go in to get their stranded Marines.

But as bad as it is now, wait until 2025, as o'er-the-Hillary! leaves office...
