Walker feeling the heat

He says he’s ready for 2016 but the Wisconsin governor hasn’t faced anything like this.

By James Hohmann

Scott Walker likes to say that the recall election he survived three years ago, when national media descended on Madison to cover his showdown with Big Labor, prepared him for the rigors of a presidential campaign. But the Wisconsin governor is learning how wishful that may be.

Nothing, in fact, compares to the scrutiny of a presidential campaign.

After a barrage of recent criticism for not answering questions about foreign policy or evolution, and not speaking up after Rudy Giuliani accused President Barack Obama of not loving America, it was more of the same for Walker on Saturday.

During gaggles with reporters at the National Governors Association meeting in Washington, he was hounded by questions about whether he agrees with Giuliani.

“That’s something that the president and the mayor will have to talk about. They certainly can comment on it themselves,” Walker said, barely elaborating on his answer to the same question a day earlier: “I don’t really know.”

Walker was also asked by The Washington Post whether the president is a Christian and answered “I don’t know” to that as well. “I’ve never asked him that,” the governor said. “You’ve asked me to make statements about people that I haven’t had a conversation with about that. How [could] I say if I know either of you are a Christian?”

Walker was also asked by The Washington Post whether the president is a Christian.

They should ask Obama that, but they know he would lie.

The fact that Walker did not answer isn't unsettling at all. "I don't know" is the right answer and tells the story in its entirety.

In asking that however they acknowledge that whether Obama is a Christian or not is not known.

Logic, guided by the knowledge that he is at least a Socialist (if not at outright Communist) would say that he is an atheist.

Then there is the fact that the only written record available which connects Obama (Barry Soetoro) to a religion, says that he was a Muslim.

So, questions regarding Obama's religion (or lack of it) are valid questions, but they don't ask the only individual that can answer it because they know that he will lie.

They ask Walker thinking that they have a "gotcha" question to trip him up with, but they are too dull-witted (sad thing to say about "journalists") to understand that their asking the question is the story, since (to the best of my knowledge) there have never been questions about a President's religious beliefs prior to this President.

If there is any politician who has been in the political heat and survived, it is Scott Walker.  Does this guy Hohmann recall the occupation of the state houses in Madison?  The hostile recall vote?  The incessant, vulgar attacks by the unions and leftists on Walker, his family?  The caustic punditry, editorials and coverage of his every move?  Take a drive through Wisconsin and the signs are still in place, both pro and con.  No one makes heads explode like Scott Walker.  Yet, he has prevailed.  Every. Time.

If he isn't hardened to the heat of a Presidential campaign, who is?

"I don't know" is absolutely the correct answer.

[[ "I don't know" is absolutely the correct answer. ]]

It's the "correct answer" from a political viewpoint.
From that viewpoint, he got by.

But Walker knows the answer.

Absolutely right.

There were questions about whether Kennedy would have loyalty to the USA or the Vatican.

Yes, but there was no question that he was a Catholic.
