Days after a federal judge issued an injunction against President Barack Obama’s executive amnesty, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) urged Senate Republicans to abandon their defunding efforts and pass a clean Homeland Security funding bill.

“We have to fund Homeland Security,” Rubio reportedly said on Wednesday, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “We can’t let Homeland Security shut down.”

He reportedly “noted that Obama has threatened to veto any bill that would reverse his executive actions on immigration, including the measure to pay for Homeland Security” and “the Senate doesn’t have enough votes to pass the bill that ties the two issues together,” according to the outlet.

Rubio, who is weighing a potential presidential run, made his remarks in Las Vegas during his book tour.

The House passed a Homeland Security spending bill that also prohibits the federal government from funding Obama’s executive amnesty. Senate Democrats have filibustered the bill three times and will reportedly not back down next week before the Feb. 27 deadline to fund the agency.

After a federal judge issued a temporary injunction against Obama’s executive amnesty on Monday evening, the Department of Homeland Security announced that it will not accept temporary amnesty applications until the case is resolved.

Rubio, who spearheaded the Senate’s comprehensive amnesty plan and lost his early front-runner status because of it, has been critical of Obama’s executive amnesty.

Oh, come on.  It's not going to "shut down".  He just killed any presidential aspirations he had.

So then it's not about funding Homeland security, is it? It's about Obama's Imperial decree. And democrats are not about to give up all those new voters.

Wouldn't we have to take a roll-call vote to find that out?

And wouldn't the Senators voting to uphold the veto then have to answer for 'shutting down Homeland Security'?

Rubio and the Pubbies won't fight because their sole purpose is to serve as an ineffective alternative to the Democrats...

Political calculus or political naïveté on his part? I wonder.

Marco Rubio is a tough one to get a handle on. A little unpredictable at times. Which makes me wonder sometimes which way he would lean on issues as they come up.

As predicted when Harry Reid let Republicans carve out DHS for a special funding fight, the GOP is going to lose and lose badly, especially if they actually shut down DHS.

Why do the Republicans let themselves get set up like this?  It never works, they have to retreat in shame. Yet they continue to do it.

The house passed a bill and sent it to the senate. The Senate has tried to take up that bill three times now and been blocked from doing so by who Sink?

Again?  I thought he killed any presidential aspirations he had in 2013 when he voted for the Senate immigration reform bill.  At least thats what conservatives said at the time.  Perhaps no conservatives told Rubio he had a second chance...and now he's blown it again.  Son of a biscuit.

What could they have done about it?  Fully fund DHS last Dec?  or shut down the government?  It was a losing stance back then too.  The GOP always gets killed on immigration.  IMO The only way out is to pass an amnesty into law that looks a lot like Obama's EO.

Tony Lee proves once again that Breitbart.com isn't worth the free internet it's printed on.  Andrew Brietbart would be ashamed of how his media empire has been squandered.

Marco Rubio falsely accused
Despite a flurry of news reports, the Republican senator didn’t call for caving in the DHS funding fight.
