Droves of shoppers ran for cover after gunfire erupted at the Home Depot store in the Chelsea neighbourhood, the New York Post reported.

It was not immediately who was involved in the shooting. A person who was injured was taken to the city’s to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, authorities said.

“I heard about some shots towards the back of the store. It sounded like 4 or 5 shots,” said one employee. “I heard someone yell, ‘Oh, my God, he’s dead’. It was on the main floor near the lighting department.”
