Oprah Winfrey, 'Selma' Team to March in Alabama for Martin Luther King Jr.

1/16/2015 12:22pm PST

Selma producer Oprah Winfrey will march Sunday in Selma, Alabama — alongside the film's director Ava DuVernay and star David Oyelowo — to commemorate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr., Paramount announced Friday.

According to the studio, the event will pay homage to King's civil rights leadership and his involvement in the Selma voting rights protests of 1965, the subject of the Oscar-nominated film.

Democratic Rep. Terri Sewell, the sole black member of Alabama's congressional delegation, will moderate a panel discussion at Selma High School during the special event, which is set to take place all day.

Paramount also will hold two free screenings of the movie in Selma on Monday for Martin Luther King Day.
