Gun ‘Expert’ Says Cop Killer Exploited Loophole To Acquire Firearm

Much has been made of cop killer Ismaaiyl Brinsley’s felonious past and the fact that he was banned by law from buying or possessing a firearm. By “much” I mean that the leftist looney birds like the NAACP, Rep. Charles Rangel, and Moms Demand Action head Shannon Watts are convinced that lax gun control laws are directly responsible for the murders of NYC police officers Wenjian Liu and Raphael Ramos.
Enter Al Jazera and their so-called firearms expert who claims that Brinsley exploited a loophole in the gun control laws to acquire his murder weapon. You see, buying a gun through a licensed dealer requires a background check, but many states don’t require them for person to person gun sales. The liberals often refer to this as “the gun show loophole.”
Even though:
Authorities don’t yet know how the gun got into Brinsley’s hands.
Al Jazeera says, “gun law loophole could have provided Brinsley’s murder weapon.” They base this on a quote from Sam Bieler, a research associate at the Urban Institute in Washington, D.C:
“Most guns go through a few separate owners. Sometimes guns are sold legally. Sometimes they’ll float around neighborhood social networks. Sometimes they’re traded. Guns will often take a circuitous route from when they’re legally purchased to the crime in which they’re used.”
Al Jazeera and Bieler conveniently leave out the very real possibility that Brinsley stole the gun he used in the cop murders. They also don’t mention that in states that allow private gun sales, it is still illegal for someone to sell a gun to a felon or banned person. However he got the gun, it was through illegal means. He didn’t exploit any loopholes; he broke the law.
Al Jazera also plays up the straw purchase aspect, suggesting that someone with legal standing could have purchased the gun for the cop killer. Investigators have determined the Taurus handgun was last bought from a pawnshop in Georgia in 1996. Are they really saying that someone did a straw purchase for Binsley 18-years ago when he was 9 years old?
The article takes a turn from stupidity to insanity when the gun “expert” says this:
“The big challenge is that we don’t yet know a huge amount about where criminals get their guns from.”
Really, we don’t know how criminals illegally obtain firearms and yet liberals pass unconstitutional gun control laws to keep them from getting them? Does it make any frickin’ sense at all to pass laws to stop something from happening when we don’t know if those laws will be successful or even address the problem?
The truth is, we actually do know how criminals get their guns. Sh*tbag felons like Brinsley get guns in one of three ways: they steal them, they buy them off the street, or they get someone to buy guns for them.
Theft is illegal. Illegal gun sales are illegal. Straw purchases are illegal. No new gun control law is going to make lawbreakers suddenly obey the law. Closing the “gun show loophole” isn’t going to impact street-level sales of guns because both parties are already engaged in illegal activity and they don’t care.
At no point in this article does Al Jazera actually back up the claim that Brinsely exploited a loophole in acquiring his gun. Unashamed by their baseless reporting, they end it with a quote from yet another gun “expert” to drive home the point that we need to adopt even more restrictive gun control laws:
Asked if more stringent laws would have made it less likely that Brinsley would have gotten hold of a gun, Pierce said, “Maybe if he was living in New York, he might not have been able to get a gun as easily.”
Yes, nothing makes people safer than denying them the right to defend themselves like New York does.
