http://ulstermanbooks.com/americans-response-torture-report/Senate Democrats, facing being bumped from power when the new Republican controlled Senate takes over in 2015, likely thought their “shocking” (and terribly one-sided) Senate report on CIA interrogation methods on a handful of terrorist suspects over a decade ago would create national interest in the topic, interest that would then favor some Democrats’ desire to “understand” our enemies rather than make them feel uncomfortable. The actual reaction though has been a collective shrug from the American public and is yet another “flat on their face” moment for this hapless crop of Democratic Party leaders.
The above image appears far more reflective of the current American public’s mood regarding how terrorists should be dealt with, and information pertaining to tactics used by CIA operatives to gain information from terrorists some twelve years ago is of little interest to a public so recently reminded of terrorist brutality in the form of numerous ISIS be-headings of citizens.
It is quite possible in fact that entire “terror report” attempt by outgoing Democrats will only reinforce Americans’ view of Democrats being the party of weakness and anti-Americanism at a time when the vast majority of citizens want strong, clear, and pro-America leadership. Certainly the 2014 Republican Midterm landslide would indicate that to be true and if so, voters might very well punish Democrats for this latest stunt during the 2016 Election as well.
Check out this Pew Research poll regarding the “torture” issue:
Support for tough interrogations of terrorists (what some call torture) has gone UP among those affiliated with both political parties since 2009, and way up among Republicans. Democrats who support this one-sided anti-CIA, anti-American safety report find themselves far outside the general mood of America itself.
We want to stop terrorism and protect our citizens, and if it means making some suspected terrorists uncomfortable to do so, THEN SO BE IT.
