Nancy Pelosi: The IRS Just Needs a New Computer System

In other words, there’s no reason not to take the IRS’s and the White House’s word for it. They said that Lerner’s e-mails got lost. It happens. Computers crash, right?
And to prevent that from happening in the future, the IRS needs to get a new computer system. Maybe the same people who brought us the Obamacare exchange website can handle the system migration for the IRS.
As with every other government problem (is that redundant?), the answer is to dump more money down the money hole. The Blaze reported:
Asked about the lost emails, Pelosi said her recommendation is not to investigate the IRS further, but to buy the IRS a new computer system. Along the way, she indicated she buys the IRS story about the computer crash, one that many Republicans immediately dismissed as a lie.
“What the missing emails tell me… is they need a new technology system at the IRS,” Pelosi told reporters Thursday. She added that she believes that the people whose emails were lost, like former IRS official Lois Lerner and a handful of others, did not seem to be aware of the computer crashes until recently.
“The reports all show that … those responsible did not know about the years of the crash of their systems until a couple of years later,” she said. “So I think they need to upgrade their technology, get it right, so that there’s no suspicion about what agenda anyone may have on that.”
This is like New York Representative Jose Serrano who, in light of the IRS scandal, suggested that the IRS receive additional funding so they could have more “oversight” controls. He said:
“There is no clearer way to promote more scandals than by cutting funding that could be used for oversight, training and reform. At the level this subcommittee is funded right now, we are just asking for more trouble at the IRS.”
Imagine a business being audited by the IRS and using the excuse that their computers crashed and subsequently lost all their relevant financial documents, and therefore couldn’t comply with the audit. The IRS would let it pass and suggest to them to invest in a new computer system. Right?
Actually, more than likely, there would be fines, the business would be shut down, and people would go to jail. Why don’t we do something like that to the IRS?
