This is just a short guide, to assist:
Do NOT change headlines!
News articles should be excerpted. Fair use guidelines suggest no more than a quarter to a third of the article should be posted. Obviously in the case of breaking news, this is not always possible.
All articles MUST be credited by providing a link to them. No linky = post deletey. Two reasons for this - it lets people check the source easily and, despite the MSM's regrettable lack of professionalism, journalistic standards, and integrity, they do still need to get paid. Gathering news costs.
Please look at the dates! Older articles are still welcome - it's a big world and there is a lot of news that gets missed - but if something is over 6 months old, mention that fact in the first line, before the actual article. Posting older (favorable) articles to crowd newer (unfavorable) ones off the front page is a known tactic of supporters, so please don't be "that guy." We're better than that.
Look at the source.
We have an ever growing list of spoof and satirical news sites here. It doesn't mean it shouldn't be posted if it is from one of those sites, far from it! News now gets spread mostly be FaceBook and Twitter - knowing something on your feed is 100% BS helps keep your blood pressure down. Besides, debunking them is a lot of fun.
Hope this helps!
