Deterring Illegal Immigration: This Town Decided that Actions Speak Louder than Words

Worried about federal sanctions, many cities and states are declaring they’re not sanctuaries for illegal aliens, when in fact most are. Thus, it’s notable that one small town in Kentucky made a similar claim that actually is true. But what’s truly remarkable is that they prominently displayed “Not a Sanctuary City” at the top of the town’s official website, perhaps becoming the first in the nation to do so.
…That is until the town’s commissioners thought maybe this was a bridge too far and deleted the words.
Worthington Hills, Kentucky, is a small suburban town of 1,600 residents. It’s close to Louisville, which, after facing legal and financial threats from the Department of Justice, recently reversed its sanctuary policies and agreed to honor detainer requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Perhaps influenced by its big city neighbor, Worthington Hills did likewise, passing a resolution to “make clear its position that it is not a sanctuary city and does not enact policies that restrict or impede cooperation with federal law enforcement agencies.” The town further declared its “intent to cooperate with federal law enforcement agencies, including DHS, ICE, and DEA in a manner consistent with applicable federal, state, and local laws.”
