Eyes turn to Somali child daycare fraud in Washington state
The Somali community is poised to continue their communal scam with the active support of Seattle’s new mayor.

As the investigation into Somali child daycare fraud in Minnesota continues, concerns have been raised about fraud in other Somali communities. Washington state, home to one of the larger Somali communities in the U.S., is seeing its Somali child daycare providers come under greater scrutiny.
Washington state GOP chairman, Jim Walsh, sees as an encouraging sign citizen journalists sifting through publicly available child daycare records finding anomalies. They have discovered cases in which Somali child daycare providers have received payments 5–10 times greater than what they are entitled to receive based on the number of children they have registered. Apparently, the Washington state Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) will record payments, but won’t check whether those payments exceed the limit. (It’s like that Seinfeld gag where Jerry says, “Anyone can take the reservation. The important part is to hold the reservation.”)
However, it all makes sense when you see that Washington’s governor, Bob Ferguson, responded to allegations leveled at the Somali community by insisting that we all recognize that diversity is our strength. (That might be true if the U.S. were planning to launch a pirate fleet in the Red Sea.)
Adding to the “Diversity is our Strength” chorus is newly elected Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson who says she has no plans to investigate allegations of local daycare fraud. In a post on X, Wilson wrote,
