:bkmk:  It will be interesting to see what becomes of this and what the ramifications will be.
Live in  harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

What to know about the militants targeted by US airstrikes in Nigeria
By Chinedu Asadu, The Associated Press
 Friday, Dec 26, 2025

The United States airstrikes that targeted Islamic State group militants in northwestern Nigeria on Thursday marked a major escalation in an offensive that the West African’s overstretched military has struggled with for years.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on social media that the “powerful and deadly” strikes in the state of Sokoto were carried out against IS gunmen who were “targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians.”

Residents and security analysts have said Nigeria’s security crisis affects both Christians, predominant in the south, and Muslims, who are the majority in the north.

Nigeria, which is battling multiple armed groups, said the U.S. strikes were part of an exchange of intelligence and strategic coordination between the two countries.

The Associated Press could not confirm the extent of the strikes’ impact.

Nigeria on cooperating with US against ISIS: ‘This challenge goes beyond borders‘
by Julia Mueller - 12/26/25 10:31 AM ET

Nigeria said its response to terrorism threats “goes beyond borders” after the U.S. launched airstrikes against Islamic State militants in the West African country on Thursday.

“Nigeria’s focus remains the protection of innocent lives and the defeat of terrorism through coordinated action with partners who respect sovereignty and regional stability. This challenge goes beyond borders, and so must the response,” Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar wrote Friday on the social platform X.

“Our approach is firm, collaborative and grounded in the understanding that security in Nigeria is inseparable from security across the wider region,” he added.

Tuggar also stressed that “terrorism in Nigeria is not a religious conflict; it is a regional security threat,” cautioning against “simplistic labels” after President Trump cited the targeting of Christians in the region.

EXCLUSIVE: Inside Signals Show Follow-Up Strikes in Nigeria Are Coming
By RC Maxwell  | 11:05 AM on December 29, 2025

WASHINGTON — For years, armed jihadists in camouflage and turbans have terrorized Sokoto's border villages, raiding for livestock, banning music under threat of lashings, and spreading dread among the Christians and moderate Muslims living there. Thanks to the Trump administration, Christmas Day brought a sudden reversal as massive explosions rocked remote strongholds of Lakurawa militants. Civilian homes miles away trembled from the blast, but it was the militants who bolted in panic, fleeing toward Niger. According to eyewitnesses, the terrorists were packed three to a motorbike and engulfed in fear, screaming frantic instructions to one another as they fled the devastation.

The precision airstrikes demonstrate the Trump administration's unwavering resolve to follow through on protecting innocent lives abroad from ISIS. But was this an isolated American intervention, or the harbinger of a broader effort to uproot jihadist control across parts of West Africa?

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth signaled this is no isolated action, posting gratitude to Nigerian partners while hinting at additional action. In an exclusive RedState interview, Ricky Buria, his chief of staff, explained the administration's mindset: "When President Trump says stop attacking Christians, he means it,” said Buria.
