About thirty years ago I had to take a "Communications" class as an elective. The instructor was a retired reporter. He had started in print, moved to radio, and finally television. He taught 2 sections, one for day students and one for evening students. Very first day of class after he introduced himself he told us. "If you are day student that could not get into the day class please do not let us know, this is the class for grown-ups. You're going to hear things your day classmates will not like, but you actually might learn something. Oned young lady made the mistake of telling him that she wanted to get into journalism to "Make a difference". He told her the only way an journalist can make a difference is to actually try telling the truth. Just report what actually happens with no slant or spin. It was clear she did not agree with that comment.
