Not really.  Nixon finished it off in 1971 because we were about to get taken down by foreign nations with surplus US dollars converting those dollars to gold and taking the gold out of the U.S.

A good summary of the path we are on - and unable to get off of.

Far too many people put their lives in the "experts" hands without any ability to think for themselves.

It certainly looks like the only thing that is going to break the cycle is economic collapse, unfortunately - and is approaching only a little slower under Trump.

I think the VietNam Era is when the current bicurfation and polarization of American society began.

There those who got college deferments, and avoided 'Nam.  Those without college deferments or political connected family got drafted.  (Some became more equal than others.)

VietNam was an extra-Constiutional, undeclared war.  The ends (containing Communism) justified the means (circumvention of the US Constitution).

Inflation and devaluation can still occur with a gold standard.  You just reduce the amount of gold that backs each dollar.  In the late Roman Empire, inflation/devaluation took the form of coinage with progressively less precious metal content.

The Great Society created an underclass that became dependent upon socialist Government 'benefits' and 'entitlements'.  (Big Government replacing God and Family.)

By the end of the Vietnam War, American Government was well on its journey to abandon the rule of law for the sake political expediency - which the Founding Fathers feared.
