I'm pretty sure Federal law precludes this. But such a case might take years wending its way through courts.

On Friday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed Assembly Bill 1127, aka, “Glock Ban” legislation, into law.


The National Shooting Sports Foundation noted that the “Glock Ban” will take effect July 1, 2026, “[banning] the sale of new Glock-brand pistols and Glock-style clones.”


The “Glock Ban” is Democrat-sponsored legislation, fashioned as a response to the use of “Glock Switches,” which are already illegal. “Glock switches” are federally prohibited plastic pieces that can be affixed to the rear of a Glock slide to make the pistol shoot full auto.

“Glock switches” are wildly popular with gangs and street criminals, therefore California Democrats are banning new sales of one the most popular handguns ever made, the Glock pistol.

It warms my heart to know the gov, er, politburo of California doesn't deal in deception.

Any machine gun or part that can be used to convert a lesser firearm to full auto capability is already considered a "machine gun". Auto-sears, Glock Switches, and the like have been strictly controlled under the NFA, as amended and added to.

I would wager the vast majority of the people who are using 'Glock Switches' aren't exactly supposed to have a handgun (or any firearm) due to their past criminal records.

Well, it would be if 'mass murder' wasn't downgraded to 'Disturbing the Peace'.

My guess is most of the other national Second Amendment groups will soon be filing suit as well, and we'll probably see a coalition or two combining forces to take on the new laws.

They’re the people using illegal Glock switches, and the people Democrats take pains not to punish for their many crimes.

Gavin Newsom, however, has at least one additional goal. He knows this law is blatantly unconstitutional and will, in due course, be struck down. But in the meantime, he can portray himself as an anti-liberty/gun champion and set himself above his potential 2028 Democrat opponents. None of them have banned one of the most popular and common guns in America, at least not yet.

Even in California, Republican voter registrations are on the rise, while Democrats are declining. This unconstitutional, desperation play by Newsom is among the reasons for that welcome change.

Under our precedents, that is all that is needed for citizens to have a right under the Second Amendment to keep such weapons.”

In the case of the AR-15, an estimated one in 20 Americans own such weapons. The Glock is even more popular. In 2021 alone, industry data shows that Glock produced 581,944 handguns with another 465,117 in 2022. It is also the weapon of choice for an estimated over 65 percent of law enforcement agencies.
