Pakistan and Afghanistan's Taliban government say they have agreed a temporary ceasefire after fresh border clashes and reported Pakistani air strikes on Kabul and Kandahar.

Both sides claimed the other requested the 48-hour ceasefire, which Pakistan said took effect from 13:00 GMT on Wednesday.

Earlier a Taliban spokesman said 12 civilians had been killed and more than 100 wounded by Pakistani firing. Both sides claimed the other suffered heavy casualties. None of the deaths could be independently confirmed.

Violence has flared since explosions rocked Afghanistan last week, which Kabul blamed on Islamabad. The Taliban deny claims they are harbouring militants targeting Pakistan.

Wednesday started with each side accusing the other of initiating the deadly clashes.

Pakistan's military said its forces had killed "15-20 Afghan Taliban" and injured many in Spin Boldak border district. The Taliban government spokesman said numerous Pakistani soldiers had been killed.

Then, later in the day explosions in Kabul and Kandahar ratcheted up tensions. Within in an hour, Pakistan announced the ceasefire.

The Mujahideen was a coalition of armed resistance movements fighting the Soviets.

Islamists turned the resistance into a jihad.  From the jihadi's we got Osama bin Laden's Al Queda and the Pakistain Intelligence Services' Taliban.

Al Queda had a significant number of non-Afghani jihadists.

The Taliban was composed of Afghan refugees who sought refuge in Pakistan and were radicalized in Madrassas funded by Saudi's and Emiraties.

Pakistan itself is an Islamic nation with an intelligence service that funds, plans, and trains terrorist operations against India and Hindu's.

It was no co-incidence that Osama bin Laden was hiding in Pakistan, down the street from a Pakistani military/intelligence facility.

Pakistan is unique in that it is the only Islamist nation that has nuclear weapons.  It was the Pakistani's that helped proliferate nuclear technology to North Korea.

Prior to 9/11, the only nations to recognize the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan were Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan.  Those are three nations America and Americans cannot trust.
