Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) blasted Russia’s overnight drone encroachment into Poland’s airspace as an “act of war,” and called on President Trump to levy tougher sanctions on Moscow over the incursion.
“Russia is attacking NATO ally Poland with Iranian shahed drones less than a week after President Trump hosted [Polish] President [Karol] Nawrocki at the White House,” Wilson wrote in a Tuesday night post on the social platform X.
“This is an act of war, and we are grateful to NATO allies for their swift response to war criminal [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s continued unprovoked aggression against free and productive nations,” he added.
Officials in Poland said Wednesday that the country’s military shot down Russian drones that “repeatedly violated” the country’s airspace during an attack on neighboring Ukraine.
“We are most likely dealing with a large-scale provocation,” Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said in a televised address. “The situation is serious, and no one doubts that we must prepare for various scenarios.”
