Disturbing video of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska’s murder is proof America has a serious crime problem

Surveillance video captured the harrowing death of Iryna Zarutska on a light rail train in Charlotte, Aug. 22, 2025. CATS

It is impossible to watch the surveillance footage showing Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska being stabbed to death on a crowded light rail carriage in Charlotte, NC, and not understand that America has a serious crime problem. Iryna, 23, had fled a war zone and should have been safe here.

She was street savvy enough to hide her beauty under a baseball cap and shapeless clothes, but it didn’t protect her from a career criminal with hatred in his heart.

A crime-ridden blue city failed her, and all the idiot Democrat mayor Vi Lyles can say is: “We will never arrest our way out” of the problem.

Yes. We. Can. Trump’s DC crackdown proves it.

That’s exactly what cops are for—arresting dangerous maniacs and keeping them off the streets.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
It takes more than arrests.
It takes judges who will pass sentences that reflect the nature of the crime, without regard for the skin color of the convicted.
It takes prosecutors who will charge malicious actors with the crimes they have committed, and who will pursue convictions instead of offering plea bargains that let those offenders get off lightly and out early (if they serve any time at all).
It takes bail requirements that reflect the severity of the crimes, and a lack of desire to have serious offenders or those with an escalating pattern of offenses back on the street.
Additionally, it takes a system that recognizes the widespread mental health issues present in what seems to be a significant cohort in today's society, whether those problems be organic or drug-induced.

Now would be a good time to get the stinking media and politicians to back off the virtually ubiquitous and often violent racist rhetoric from everyone from college professors, media, and political leaders that has become so common, blaming people who had nothing to do with the (often self-induced) problems people experience in their lives just because their skin is a different color or they worked hard enough to have something.

Enough celebrating sickness and violence.

Every sh*tbird politician, every media 'personality', every 'influencer', every stuffed suit and talking head out there that foment this hatred should spend time in the cell with these monsters they have created.

Bring back inpatient mental institutions, especially for the violently insane. There is no way that perpetrator was thinking right, and he had attested to that himself in previous encounters with the judicial system. That system let him back out on the streets and his behaviour continued to escalate.

I can't disagree with any thing in your post. Especially the part about requiring the apologists to spend some cell time with them!!

How many crimes like this are out there where there is no video present and eyewitnesses refuse to discuss?

That should scare everyone.

A late friend who did some time in what would have been a perfectly justifiable (nonlethal) incident under 'frontier justice' confided in me that he was glad there were prisons. He said there are people in there that no one would want back on the streets, especially their street.
Put the judges and prosecutors where they can be exposed to that element (not just to shackled bailiff-tended defendants), and they just might rule differently.

Most important of all, it takes a people who care for their fellow citizens.  Even more disturbing to me than the attack itself is that not one person in this train car came to her aid as she lay there bleeding out.  When human life is systemically devalued, no judge, cop, or warden can prevent this from happening.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-
