By blowing up a suspected cartel boat, the US signaled it's bringing War on Terror tactics to the drug war

The US carried out an airstrike on a suspected drug vessel in the Caribbean Sea earlier in the week.

The strike targeted a Venezuelan organization and comes as the US ramps up pressure on drug cartels.

It also marks a pivot away from traditional counter-narcotics operations in the region.


The US sent a message this week that it is willing to unleash tactics once reserved for distant battlefields — deadly strikes against suspected terror targets — much closer to home as it turns up the pressure on drug cartels.

The media will quail over the word "suspected", but certain types of vessels and intel sources that will not be revealed (for their own protection) likely led to the vessel being 'suspected'. I would presume that there was sufficient evidence to prove the vessel contained drugs and/or narcoterrorists.

I lost a grandson to fentanyl a few years back. Blow those >bleep< out of the water. fish gotta eat, too.

(No matter what you think of Russia, they know how to handle Somalian pirate vessels...)
