Chinese President Xi Jinping stood shoulder to shoulder with Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un for the first time ever during China’s largest-ever military parade showcasing its nuclear triad.
The trio of dictators stood together smiling in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square on Wednesday during China’s massive celebration marking 80 years since Japan’s defeat in World War II. It was a historic show of authoritarian strength and a clear message of deterrence against the United States and its allies in the region.
The stunning power flex included China’s first-ever display of its full nuclear triad of weapons, which can be deployed from the land, sea and air — including an upgraded intercontinental ballistic missile with a range of 12,400 miles and other new war tech.
Trump, meanwhile, took a shot at Xi on Tuesday, asking him to “Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America.”
China’s new torpedo-shaped drones and array of hypersonic weapons could pose a threat to the US and its allies’ interests in the region as it asserts greater control over the seas, experts said.
