COVID masks are back in Newsom’s California

California is experiencing an “upswing” in coronavirus cases, and officials are urging residents to mask up again.

The Los Angeles Times reported that a “COVID wave is washing over” the Golden State, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the “wastewater viral activity level for COVID-19 is currently High” there.

“The extent of the recent increases has prompted some county-level health officials to recommend that residents once again consider wearing masks in indoor public settings, at least until transmission has declined,” the LA Times noted Wednesday.

Two weeks ago the hospital where my wife is got draconian about masks, gowns and gloves, they said it was for 14 days because of some covid cases in the ‘community’. I got chewed out because I stopped wearing it all in my wife’s room. The fact that I don’t go room to room and stay in my wife’s room the entire time I am there? Well common sense doesn’t go very far. So I am waiting for another chewing because wearing a vinyl gown, rubber gloves and a very cheap mask for nine hours is damn uncomfortable.

Actually, there's evidence they don't.  A metanalysis of all controlled studies of the effects of masking on the spread of airborne viral diseases concluded there is not effect.

I've been making that argument all along. In addition, your eyes are receptors for the virus if it is floating around in the air. The mask is useless. I believe the nominal size of the COVID virus is about 120 nm, or 0.12 micrometers.

And yet, if you try to google the efficacy of masks in preventing transmission, all that turns up is "studies" concluding they are very effective, oh yes, very very effective. They really believe we're that stupid.

I still chuckle when I see some idiot driving in their car/truck with a mask on... and when Newsom's has a lunch party without his mask on that is forced on others.
