According to the outlet, Deputy Richardson was notified on August 15 about a child who had been left alone. When he responded to the garage, he found the boy "without access to food, water, bathroom, medical assistance, or adult supervision."
Richardson's affidavit alleges that the child was alone for "approximately one week" while his father, Benitez-Chacon, was in Florida with "no known return date." While neighbors provided some assistance during the day, the child was reportedly without adult help during the nighttime hours.
The judge set a $100,000 cash or surety bond after Benitez-Chacon entered a not guilty plea.
