A federal grand jury indicted a Seattle woman Thursday for the murder of a U.S. Border Patrol Agent, with Attorney General Pamela Bondi authorizing the pursuit of the death penalty.

Teresa Youngblut, 21, of Seattle, had a notice of intent to seek the death penalty previously filed against her by the acting U.S. attorney for the District of Vermont, according to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

As alleged, this defendant shot and killed a United States Border Patrol agent while he was performing his duties. We will not stand for such attacks on the men and women who protect our communities and our borders,” Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti said in a statement.

Court documents reveal that on Jan. 20, 2025, a U.S. Border Patrol agent stopped Youngblut’s car on Interstate 91 in Coventry, Vermont, a small town about 20 miles (32 kilometers) from the Canadian border.
