Federal judge to hear conservation groups' arguments for shutting down Alligator Alcatraz

A federal judge will begin hearing testimony and arguments Wednesday on a lawsuit seeking to close down Alligator Alcatraz, the controversial immigration detention center located in the remote Everglades.

The lawsuit was filed by Friends of the Everglades and the Center for Biological Diversity against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Florida Division of Emergency Management and Miami-Dade County.

The lawsuit, filed June 27 alleges state and federal agencies of violating a landmark federal environmental law, the National Environmental Policy Act, in building the detention center in the wetlands of Big Cypress National Preserve in the Everglades. The Miccosukee Tribe has also joined the suit, saying it's built on sacred tribal land.

U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams is overseeing the case in Miami federal court.

This nonsense would end if Trump cut the number of federal judges by 40%.  They have entirely too mush time on their hands to even consider such cases.  Frivolous.  And anyone appointed by Obama should be removed because if the truth were recognized as the truth, everything he did is invalid.  And we all know why!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trump needs to up the numbers by four fold those being deported.

As I understand things, Congress as per Art I sec 8 (not the Executive) is the one that has authority to delete all federal courts of law other than the Supreme Court which takes a Constitutional Amendment.

Congress also has sole authority to remove any federal judges, including those on the Supreme Court

Wasn't the facility and air strip already there?  Only some additional portable buildings were added.  So the complaints are too late?

Since I wasn't paying complete attention, I thought they halted anymore new structures being built, but may have heard wrong. :shrug:

If so, they will just have to move 'em out and head "em out faster. Not a bad thing.
