NOAH Weather forecast for Sunday...

Looks like Rain for 95% of the country... I don't remember the map being this completely covered (especially this time of the year)...

That is funny... I'm busy on other things lately so I couldn't tell you why, but that is odd.

Our local forecasters haven't said anything about rain Sunday, just blazing heat, even though that graphic puts us right under the raindrops. I certainly hope so - we could use some. After a soppy July, we've had barely a sprinkle thus far in August.

Very strange.  Our forecast says there is only a 5% chance of rain on Sunday.

Well I went back to the page (this time after some sleep)

https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/national_forecast/natfcst.php

Same graphic was still up (but I got the day wrong)... it was for Saturday (not Sunday as my sleepy eyes deceived me late last night)...

I think the map represents those with a chance of rain that day (our local forecast says a 20% chance). So I assume Summer and not knowing exactly where afternoon showers will hit, they sorta took a shotgun approach to drawing the map.

I was just amazed at how much of the map had a chance of rain .... just had never seen it that widespread.

lol....

I have enough understanding of the met area to know and understand that the odds of rain on the leeward side of the Rockies in mid August  with a 1020 MB High parked on top of you......   is not or never has been a rainmaker.    There might be mountainous orographic induced showers, but that is always a possibility, but never enough to impact NWS maps.

Def. a goof.

Well goof or not, we got a good 3 inches of rain (Saturday) in less than an hour, it came down.

No rain was predicted for Saturday, and we got a few sprinkles - not enough to measure.

In the mountains of western North Carolina, we had rain yesterday.  Today, Sunday, is sunny, hot and humid.  A neighbor told me this has been the most rain they have had in a year and heat in the seven years they have been here.

In Georgia at my other house, for the last 6-8 years, we have had a hue amount of rain, with rain almost every day.  Sort of like Florida, but in Florida, it usually rains for 30 minutes to 2 hours and is sunny.  Not Georgia.  Rainy all day, gray sky, humid, etc all day, and hot.  Very uncomfortable.

I am looking forward to moving away from the ATL metro one day.

Atlanta is a summer cakewalk, say versus Houston.

But we do the same, by living up north in summer, south in the winter.  Best of both worlds.

I worked on 3 consulting gigs in Houston.  Definitely damn hot.  But I don't think it was hotter than Atlanta.  The distinction about Houston is its poor planning for water run off when it rains heavy.  After a few minutes of heavy rain, the roads were flooded.  I drove many times through what I thought deep water to go to lunch, or to/from the client site.

Locally heavy rains here in the Mojave Desert.  Some microbursts in town by the Colorado River.  Nothing here at our Castillo.

I love the day or two after rain in the desert. Everything blooms and the place scrambles to take advantage of that little bit of moisture to create progeny.

That's in the Sonoran Desert around Phoenix, where the Saguaro Cacti live.  It's not as spectacular here in the Mojave.  Death Valley is in the Mojave Desert.

I was in the Tikaboo Valley, in Nevada...About 20 miles from Groom Lake.

According to Google, that is considered to be Mojave Desert, too.

Yes, it is.  The Mojave Desert is pretty large.  We live near the Eastern edge of it, near the Grand Canyon...

You're around Bullhead City, right? Is that the one that had the "BC" up in the hills?
