Trump’s Wind-Permitting Freeze Prompts New York To Kill Offshore Wind Gambit
Blue state caves on offshore wind and green-energy transmission lines after Trump’s wind crackdown.
by Audrey Streb  July 18, 2025,

The New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) terminated its offshore wind transmission process on Thursday, citing the Trump administration’s freeze on permitting for the energy technology. [emphasis, links added]

President Donald Trump’s executive order on blocking new offshore wind permits has derailed plans to build out offshore wind transmission lines in New York, according to the PSC and Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office.

PSC declared that axing its Public Policy Transmission Need (PPTN) process is a necessary move to spare ratepayers, though it does not represent the end of offshore wind initiatives in the state.

“One of our most important tasks is to protect consumers,” PSC Chair Rory Christian said in a prepared statement.

Wind and solar are less efficient and more expensive means of generating electricity in many circumstances.  Also, there the issues of reliability, availability, and predictability of online generation capacity as well as the issue of maintaining the stability of the grid.

These large offshore wind projects are environmentally disruptive and economically suicidal.  Economies do not grow when they intentially invest resources into the least economical, most inefficient means of power generation.  We get less electricity at higher cost.  Also there is the opportunity costs of the investment of time and money in Nonsense.  That time and that money could have been better invested to increase efficiencies and productivity.
